New Building Project Timeline Update
We are pleased to announce that our new learning centre and administration building are projected to be open for Term 2, 2022. As we inch towards the end of the school year, service upgrades, external finishes and internal fit-out works will soon commence, as both buildings are almost foundationally complete. Thankfully, construction has had and will continue to have minimal impact on school operations and the local community. Unfortunately several factors have pushed back the original forecasted date of opening, such as the unpredictable nature of Covid-19, the relocation of heritage properties, wet weather and site decontamination. Although the project delivery has been slightly delayed, we expect to welcome our community into the new facilities early next year. The new learning centre and administration will provide the school with an upgraded space to meet curriculum and extra-curricular needs, while supporting enrolment growth at New Farm State School. For more information regarding the project, contact buildingfutureschools@qed.qld.gov.au.

Conversation Starters
“How was school today?”
Have you ever had a one-sided conversation with your child/children after school? Trying to elicit any information about the day, can be frustrating. Try these conversation starters in the car or when you are having dinner:
What made you smile today?
Who did your sit with at lunch?
If you could change one thing about today what would it be?
What was the hardest rule to follow today?
Tell me something you know today that you didn’t know yesterday.
Obstathon Rewards
In assembly today, we announced the house that had raised the most money during our Obstathon. The children were very excited to learn that Binkinba had raised
$ 5,156.95! As promised, all Binkinba students will have a lunchtime disco as a reward. This will take place during lunchtime, on Friday the 17th and students who are in Binkinba house ( Red) can wear free dress for the day.
Free dress needs to be school appropriate: closed in shoes, broad brimmed hat, covered shoulders and midriffs and shorts and skirts of a reasonable length.
The individual class that raised the most money was also announced; this was 3/4A with a staggering total of $1,071.90. 3/4A have won a pizza party that will take place early in term 4. The exact date and food intolerances etc. will be managed by Ms Andrews.
Congratulations to Binkinba and to 3/4A!
Judy Loudon
We proudly have many diverse students. We are continuing to build staff capacity to identify and support students with gifts/talents. In the last week Angela Lamb (Library Technician) and Natalie Foss (Teacher Aide) have shared their learning from the Gifted Education Mentor (GEM) training with their fellow Teacher Aides. There were many ‘misty eyes’ in the group when we watched the YouTube clip I am Gifted. There is also some other excellent clips on this topic. Thank you to Angela and Natalie for continuing on this learning journey about how we can best support students with gifts/talents in our school- both academically and socially.
One of the programs we have commenced is the Sporting Achievers Program (SAP) which is being organised by Ethan Fleming and Hayden Lawrence. This program offers opportunities for students with gifts/talents in sports/physical education. Ethan and Hayden have provided their free time to support approximately 50 students before school. We are in the process of purchasing 2 removable basketball hoops to support this program. Thank you, Hayden and Ethan, for your endeavours in this area.
Our Support Teacher Literacy and Numeracy, Sandy Chambers, and I met with the Director of School Culture, from the Qld Academy of Science Maths Technology (QASMT) Jane Manwaring. We shared with Jane our Whole School Approach for Differentiation, and how we collect data to inform resourcing and support interventions for students and classes. Jane kindly offered to arrange a Term 4 visit to QASMT at Toowong for some of our students with gifts/talents in the STEM areas.
The Autism Hub has released some excellent YouTube clips to help people understand this disability. These clips have young people themselves talking about their own Autism Spectrum Disorders. Titled ‘Autism Hub Listening to Students Series’ the series includes videos such as What do you want people to know about Autism?
During Term 4 Judy Loudon will be moving to the Head of Department Curriculum role and mentoring an Acting Inclusion Coach. Judy will be taking this opportunity to build a deeper capacity with the Australian Curriculum to continue with maximising progress and improving academic achievement for every student.
