Does School Plus automatically know we are away?
No. If you have a regular booking with School Plus Outside School Hours Care, it is your responsibility to notify them directly if you need to cancel or amend a booking, will be away or if your student is absent due to illness.
Please phone 0458 052 153 or email newfarm@schoolplus.com.au
If you fail to notify School Plus of an absence Police may be notified in accordance with the 'Missing Child Policy'.
What if my student is attending a school activity somewhere else?
If the school transports students to an activity via bus or walking groups, the school will mark a roll and account for the students.

If your student is not present at 9am roll marking and the office has not been notified they would be away, an SMS is generated and sent to parents. You are able to reply text to this SMS.
If your child/ren have a medical condition requiring regular or emergency administration of medication, please make sure you have supplied school with the following:
- All medications must be in the original container and have clear chemist labels with the students name
- Any allergy/asthma/anaphylaxis plans must be completed and signed by a GP
- All parents must also complete a consent to administer form that aligns with the GP directed plan - there must be a form completed for each medication
IF YOUR CHILD/REN SELF ADMINISTER THEIR MEDICATION THIS NEEDS TO BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED IN BOTH THE LETTER FROM THE DOCTOR AND IN THE ACTION PLAN
Parents are also required to provide a letter detailing their consent for their child/ren to administer their own medication.
Parents are welcome to drop medication to the Admin Office between 9am – 3pm daily.
Students are not permitted to transport their own medication. An adult must attend and provide medication and complete any require consents.
For all emergency medication, once it has been received and recorded by administration, all medication (e.g. asthma medication, anaphylaxis medication) will be put into a labelled box and stored in the administration building First Aid Room.
If your child/ren’s medical status changes (e.g. asthma action plan no longer relevant, allergy severity decreased etc) please let the school know via email through firstaid@newfarmss.eq.edu.au so that we may update our systems.

Trivia Night was another spectacular success with a great crowd, colourful costumes and plenty of fun had by all. I am so grateful to our P&C members, Natalie Chin who organised the event and to some of our key helpers on the night Lyne Moore, Fiona Caniglia and George Gallantree, who were amazing with sales and sponsors. Uniform shop is open every Thursday 8am – 9:30am in Term 3.
Reflection Room
Your child may be referred to the lunch time reflection room by their teacher or another education support officer. This is a chance for your child to reflect on an incident or pattern of behaviour. They are asked the following questions:
- Where were you?
- What was happening?
- What did you do?
- What rule did you break?
- How could you fix things?
- What could you do differently next time?
We always take the time to listen and find out what really happened, this may involve speaking with other students and staff. If your child attends the reflection room, you will receive an email. This will allow you to talk to your child about what happened.
Head of Department - Curriculum
Curriculum and Classroom
As we approach the final week of term, we continue to enjoy a range of flexible learning experiences. A highlight this week was welcoming grandparents into our Year 1 classrooms. They had the opportunity to reflect on and share memories of their own school days with our students. While many things have changed over the years, some have remained reassuringly familiar. Our students thoroughly enjoyed discussing their writing, sharing dioramas that illustrated how animals live in various habitats and what they need to survive, and demonstrating how technology and iPads can engage and enhance their learning.
Upcoming Next Term:
Homework Policy Feedback Session
Parents are invited to provide feedback on the updated Homework Policy. The session will take place on Tuesday, 22nd July, from 2:15 PM to 3:00 pm. This will be an opportunity to view the draft policy page and share your thoughts on the messaging related to homework. If you are interested in attending, please email Mrs Krohn, Head of Curriculum, at mkroh1@eq.edu.au to register your interest.

Windsor State School: Acclaimed Psychologist- Karen Young- Parent Seminar- Holding Strong, Loving Boundaries (Including Social Media and Screens) |
Dear Parents and Carers from Across the Brisbane City Collective Schools Big feelings and the behaviours that often come with them are part of growing up, but when emotions run high, even the strongest parent-child connection can feel the strain. Boundaries matter. So does connection. The challenge? How to hold your ground without losing your connection and influence in the process. As parents and carers, we want to hold firm, loving boundaries, but how do we do this in a way that deepens connection, holds them safely, and protects their willingness to turn to us? This seminar is here to help….. We have invited acclaimed psychologist, Karen Young, to Windsor State School to host a parent seminar on the evening of Thursday 14 August 2025. The topic of her seminar for parents and carers will be, ‘Holding Strong, Loving Boundaries (Including Around Social Media & Screens) While Preserving Influence and Connection’. It will be about leading with presence, connection and confidence. To view a flyer outlining the content of the evening in detail, please click here. This seminar, has a different focus to Karen's well-attended and well-received parent seminars from 2022, 2023 and 2024. However, there are some key themes that will be reinforced, as they are highly important for enabling our students to develop with our guidance and support as adults. There will be many key takeaways for parents, carers and staff to implement when working to support our wonderful students. Historically, these events have seen very strong ticket sales, so please look to opt-in early to secure your seat. Date: Thursday 14 August, 6.30 – 8.00pm Please email tjohn353@eq.edu.au to notify of planned attendance and then pay via EFTPOS at the front desk on the evening. |

Pressing pause on tech tantrums: positive switch-off strategies
Does managing screen time feel like a daily battle in your family? If so, you’re not alone. Many parents face frustration and pushback, but these challenges don’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.
The pull of screens is strong, and kids easily lose track of time: what feels like five minutes can turn into fifty. Many apps and games trigger dopamine responses, making it harder to step away. So when the screen goes off, children are not just pausing a game: they are abruptly ending something deeply absorbing and enjoyable.
But with the right tools and strategies, you can turn screen time struggles into opportunities for balance and connection, for any age group. By making screen time predictable, introducing engaging follow-on activities, using visual timers, and modeling calm responses to frustration, we can help kids navigate tech challenges with confidence.
Triple P’s latest article empowers parents and carers with straightforward information like this for a calm and positive approach to switching off screens.
