If your child/ren have a medical condition requiring regular or emergency administration of medication, please make sure you have supplied school with the following:
- All medications must be in the original container and have clear chemist labels with the students name
- Any allergy/asthma/anaphylaxis plans must be completed and signed by a GP
- All parents must also complete a consent to administer form that aligns with the GP directed plan - there must be a form completed for each medication
IF YOUR CHILD/REN SELF ADMINISTER THEIR MEDICATION THIS NEEDS TO BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED IN BOTH THE LETTER FROM THE DOCTOR AND IN THE ACTION PLAN
Parents are also required to provide a letter detailing their consent for their child/ren to administer their own medication.
Parents are welcome to drop medication to the Admin Office between 9am – 3pm daily.
Students are not permitted to transport their own medication. An adult must attend and provide medication and complete any require consents.
For all emergency medication, once it has been received and recorded by administration, all medication (e.g. asthma medication, anaphylaxis medication) will be put into a labelled box and stored in the administration building First Aid Room.
If your child/ren’s medical status changes (e.g. asthma action plan no longer relevant, allergy severity decreased etc) please let the school know via email through firstaid@newfarmss.eq.edu.au so that we may update our systems.

National Reconciliation Week 26 May – 3 June
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2025 is Bridging Now to Next.
The theme reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future – learning from the past to look ahead and push forward together on the reconciliation journey.
The 2025 artwork has been created by Kalkadoon woman, Bree Buttenshaw, and features native plants known for regenerating and thriving, to symbolise strength, growth and commitment to walking together.
National Reconciliation Week is held from 27 May – 3 June every year, and is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and recommit to reconciliation and First Nations justice.
Thank you to Ms Andrews for organising learning activities focusing on the significance of reconciliation and the historical events of this week. During Thursday afternoon Peer Support session and at this week’s assembly, student leaders will facilitate and share culturally and age-appropriate materials for fellow students. A big thanks to Ms Andrews for developing materials and supporting our student leaders for these activities.
National Sorry Day is Monday 26 May; a day which acknowledges and raises awareness of the history and continued effect of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from their families, communities and culture. National Reconciliation Week celebrates and builds on the respectful relationships shared by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.
These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
27 May 1967 - On this day, Australia’s most successful referendum saw more than 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Australian Government power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and recognise them in the Census.
3 June 1992 - On this day, the Australian High Court delivered the Mabo decision, the culmination of Eddie Koiki Mabo’s challenge to the legal fiction of ‘terra nullius’ (land belonging to no one) and leading to the legal recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners and Custodians of lands. This decision paved the way for Native Title.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Gala Days
Unfortunately, due to wet weather and the impact on field conditions, last Friday’s sports Gala Day was cancelled. As the Track & Field Day is scheduled for 13 June, Gala Day will run for the next two weeks only. Payments for the third week will be credited to Term 4 Gala Day invoices. Thank you to Kent Rainbow and the teachers for organising team training and the interschool competition.

Playground Games
You may have heard from your child/children that we have paused handball games at school. The number of disputes over these games has grown rapidly this term and the follow up investigations have eaten into the learning and teaching time in classes. For these reasons I have put a temporary ban in place. During this time, I will be working with year 6 students to compile a list of school handball rules and the relaunch of these games will hopefully be more enjoyable for all.
On a more positive note, the long-awaited Basketball court has opened this week. Thanks to the year 6 leaders who are modelling safe play on this court.
Medication
As the cooler months approach and colds and sore throats settle in, I’d like to remind you that students cannot self-administer medication. Our students are known to be generous and can share with others which can be dangerous. Medications can also be lost, found and used by others. If your child requires medication, please discuss with our office staff who will be able to supply you with the correct form and talk with you about safe storage and administration. This applies to natural and homeopathic medication.
Social Emotional Learning
We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued. As part of our social-emotional learning focus, all classes are engaging with the second step program, which builds essential skills in empathy, emotion management, and problem-solving. This term’s focus is Problem Solving and I’ve attached a poster showing the language that is used school wide to support this learning.
Alongside this, our Peer Support initiative encourages positive relationships across year levels, with older students mentoring younger peers to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Together, these programs help nurture a respectful and connected school community.

In Curriculum...
This past fortnight has been a very exciting place of learning. A variety of activities have occurred, including Under 8s Day and the Yr 4s incursion – What a Load of Rubbish.
During Under 8s day, our junior school were involved in a host of learning experiences such as painting and drawing with different tools and media, paper plane folding, yoga style movements and stretching along with games, puzzles, trains and blocks. These learning opportunities allow students to develop their creativity, think imaginatively and build social skills.
Year 4s had the opportunity to integrate Science, HASS, Literacy and Health subjects in their incursion to consider the impacts of waste on our environment and ways to build sustainability in our community. Students first investigated products breaking down in landfill and the impacts on health and the environment. They discussed how a community can attempt to reduce products going to landfill by directing waste to either recycling, reusing or composting. Following, students then proposed solutions for the school community and crafted persuasive arguments to present their ideas.
Book Fair
Thank you to the P&C and community for again running a successful Book Fair, followed by the disco. Our involvement with this event, not only gives students an opportunity to purchase new titles, but allows additional purchases to be made for the school – adding resources to our library and classrooms.
Our basketball court is open!
The long highly anticipated opening of our basketball court happened this week. This would not have been possible without the support from all our community here at New Farm.
Our P&C is such an integral part of our community and without them these additional play spaces could not happen. If you're interested in ways that you can contribute to the school P&C please reach out to the team on pandc@newfarmss.eq.edu.au
