2021 Prep Enrolments – Now Enrolling
Thank you to all our families for spreading the word on enrolments for 2021. At the end of Term 3 we had 70 prep enrolments and this week the total has crept up to 80.
We are continue to hold our enrolment interview across the first 4 weeks of the term, however enrolments received late in term 4 may mean the interview will be held in January 2021.
Our 2021 prep classroom visit and play dates will be sent out for parents this week. The classroom visit will be only for children but playdates will be for both parents and children. Thank you to Jo Keehan for again organizing these. Both events are an important aspect of orientating young children into our school setting.
COVID Update
With restrictions easing across Qld, we are also re-introducing various activities for our students. Some of these include gathering for assemblies, drop off and pick up arrangements which Mrs Bradley outlines in her newsletter article and some our meeting arrangements.
However, we must remain vigilant with our hygiene procedures during term 4. The 3 main points for us all to adhere to, to help prevent the spread of COVID19 in our community, are:
- Social Distancing
- Wash Hands regularly
- Get tested if you develop any symptoms or feel unwell
2021 School Captain Selections
This Term we will be holding our annual leader selection process with our Year 5 students. Over the next fortnight, I will meet with Year 5 classes to explain the process for selection and outline the timelines. Students interested in applying will be given nomination forms and these details will be available to parents on the newsletter and website.

- Parents welcome on school grounds, for Drop Off and Pick Up
From Wednesday 7 of October, we will be resuming dismissal for yrs 1-6, from the classrooms, at 3 p.m. Preps will be dismissed from outside the tuckshop from 3.00pm. We would ask that parents continue to socially distance and refrain from standing in large groups in the playground. It is perfectly acceptable for parents to meet their child at the gate, or at a mutually agreed spot in the playground.
As before, the playgrounds are allocated for Jabiru’s use from 3 p.m. and to allow them access and for social distance requirements, we remind you to leave the school grounds promptly once you have collected your student.
The Prep train will continue to operate for the remainder of this week, from 8.30 a.m. We will then reassess where our teacher aides are most needed at this time of the day and will let you know if the Prep Train will not be running from week 2.
- Parent Request for 2021
A reminder that communication with the school about 2021 class placements, is through the online Schoolzine form. 2021 Class Allocation Details This will provide you with an opportunity to share important information relating to your child’s learning, personality clashes and important family information. Parent input is welcomed, but is not essential.
N.B. Parents cannot request a particular teacher for 2021
Information is treated confidentially
Although we consider all information, there is no guarantee it will be actioned.
Information will only be accepted via this Schoolzine form, until week 2 of term 4.
Parents please note the newletter for this term will be sent fortnightly
Australian Girls Choir (AGC)
Over the coming weeks we are excited to have the Australian Girls Choir (AGC) visit NFSS to complete a workshop with interested participants. Look out for the information flyers which will have a permission slip attached for all girls prep – year 6. Please return your permission slip to the school if you are interested in having your daughter participate. On the day, interested girls will participate in a 30 minute workshop with one of AGC’s experienced tutors, involving simple rhythm, pitch and movement activities and games. Following the workshop, AGC will send an encouraging personalised written report to the parents of each girl who participated.
The AGC provides wonderful performance opportunities to many thousands of girls from across the country and was established in 1984 in Melbourne by Judith Curphey OAM. The founding philosophy behind the AGC is that every child can learn to sing given encouragement and training is designed to cater to varying abilities and confidence levels. Girls have fun, make friends and blossom musically and socially as members of the choir. Our school is helping to engage girls and give them the opportunity to experience what the AGC has to offer.

Back to School Reading Tips
With a new term underway it’s time to get in the swing of school learning.
Here are some easy ways that parents and carers can help children become strong, successful readers:
- Set a routine.
Routines have many benefits, namely, children feel comfortable and stable in their environment, resulting in more cooperative behavior inside and outside of school. - Read at home.
Reading regularly at home provides children with the practice they need to become great readers. Remember, “The more kids read, the better they read,” and the same holds true for the opposite effect, “the less kids read, the poorer they’ll read.” - Make a special reading spot.
Designating a special reading spot for children to read with their parents or carer is not only fun, but is also a great way to create a distraction-free zone where children can concentrate. - Be a great reading partner!
It’s no fun to read when you’re forced to or feel embarrassed and ashamed to read. Building trust and supporting a child reader is crucial as a reading partner. - Set a good example; be caught in the act!
Children mimic the behavior they see at home, repeating the actions they observe from their parents or carers can instill great reading practices.
Matthew N (4W) & James M (4/5F) love to read!
Lets get ready to move!
Moi B, Elke H and Yanna S from 4/5F are getting ready to move this term playing handball at lunchtime. As we progress into term 4 all this physical play will help them to practice the four elements of dance (Dynamics, Relationships, Space & Time) during our dance program set to begin next week with Creative Dance Industries. All year levels will be learning to choreograph their own dance moves as they move their way into some fun dance moves!
Book Week 2020
Book Week 2020 will be in Week 3 this term!
This year we have a special author Aleesah Darlison coming to the school to speak to all students about her book ‘League of Llamas, The Golden Llama’. Aleesah will be providing fun, learning activities such as book readings, taking part in quizzes, games, code breaking and drawing. You can read about her League of Llama series and other books here.
The author visit will be on Thursday 22 October.
Also during book week in the library we will have fun, learning activities throughout the week based around the ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’ theme and a dress up book character parade for students!
The parade will be in week 3 with the exact date to be confirmed.
Happy Reading,
Mrs Lamb
