Drop Off and Pick Up
Thank you to everyone who have already registered for our LOOKOUT PROGRAM. When all drivers know the procedures, it means the process works better for all utilising it. Ultimately, it means that the children are arriving and leaving the school safely each day. Please have a look on Dojo for updates that Mrs Bradley and I have put out over the past week regarding the operating procedures we are aiming for with all drivers.
Each Month we will be rewarding one driver who we notice consistently doing the right thing, Being Respectful, Responsible and Safe in our pick up or drop off zones. This week we will be presenting our first reward, good luck! It could be you!
Evacuation Drills Term 2
This term we are still conducting our evacuation and lockdown drills although due to social distancing, we are doing the evacuation drills slightly differently. Over the past week we have held individual year level drills with Prep, Years 1, 5 and 6 and next week we will do the same for Years 4, 3, and 2. In the last fortnight, we will hold the whole school lockdown drill, which should need no changes to regular procedures.
Virtual Assembly
Today we held our first virtual assembly. Thanks to Nick Fenton, Andre and Melinda Norman who supported classes connecting via Teams to the presentation. It went very well and our Captains did a marvellous job helping present awards and sharing information.
New Captain Appointments
Following Louis A leaving New Farm, we had a vacancy in the Vice Captain role. From our selection process, Cooper L was appointed to the role and following Asher L has been appointed as Merthyr House Captain. Congratulations to both students, well deserved appointments.

- Uniform Shop
Our uniform shop is now open from 8 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. every Wednesday. Although we are asking parents to stay off the school grounds as much as possible, uniform shop visits are permitted. You can also order on School Locker and items will be delivered to the school office.
- Birthday Food
As some parents may want their child to only eat food prepared at home, we ask that for the remainder of the term, you do not send in treats for birthdays. This includes packaged treats and ice-blocks. All being well, this rule will be relaxed in term 3.
- Face-to-face meetings
In line with Queensland Health advice, we are currently holding tele meetings only. We hope that face-to-face meetings can resume soon.

Evacuation and lockdown drill for Term 2- by Year level groups
Our mandatory emergency drills for Term 2 will be conducted differently in light of the current pandemic and planned return to school of the majority students.
The Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 requires fire and evacuations drills to be undertaken and this requirement is still in place during the current COVID-19 pandemic with a sensible approach ensuring controls are in place to maintain safety.
As part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan, alternative assembly points should be considered. We will still use the oval at this stage. Cones will be placed at several point on the oval to maintain distance between groups. Sanitiser will be available in the first aid kit.
Schools can complete their required drill using staggered options e.g. each individual classroom staggered over a week or by year level.
Ensuring adults maintain physical distancing requirements.
Communications to parents from the school via the newsletter will help alleviate any concerns and provide peace of mind that the fire and evacuations drills are routine and required each year, have been scaled to smaller groups of students to ensure that DoE is complying with the mass gathering restrictions and the students safety is the department’s key focus with an all hazard approach.
We will complete the drills for the remainder of the school when they return to classes.
Lockdown Drill – week 8 of Term. All year levels
Cleaning and Sanitising of classroom- daily. Our cleaning staff will continue with the daily precautionary cleaning regime for all areas. Grounds staff will continue to sanitise handrails, bubblers and playgrounds during the day.
Building Project- Pool Change rooms upgrade. J&D Contracting will be onsite for the remainder of this term. Honeywill Consulting will be managing this process. The two Year one classes in B block will be relocated to Music and Art rooms for period of the demolition. Mr Chapman our classroom music teacher and Ms Lee our Junior Lote teacher will visit individual classes for their lessons. Mr McIntyre will be working from B block staff meeting room on the day of instrumental music takes place.
The contractors have found some termite damage in the flooring of B block this will be repaired as part of the works. Hopefully we will have an update this week on when classes can return to their classrooms.
Pool entrance gates – to be heightened. Delayed due to Pool upgrade project. Mr Rainbow requested the pool entrance gates be heighten to allow more control over entering the area. The entry latch will be heightened as well. Works will commence after the change room project is completed.
Social Distancing measures for the reception area, photocopier room and staffroom. You will see the reception area looking a little different. We will have sneeze guards installed at the front desk and floor markings will be present. We will have 3 rooms in B block open for staff at lunch times. Hand sanitiser and washing facilities are available in each room.
Garden bed removal and repair to concrete- Rowan Cassidy will be onsite this weekend to complete the final part of these works which includes demolition of the brick garden bed which was damaged by the tree and re concreting this area.
School Watch
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene.
Call the School Watch number – 13 17 88

Thanks for all that you have done and continue to do to keep us safe. You are very appreciated.

Jamin and Lilly from 5B present our wonderful groundsman Tony with a gift.
Hello to all of the NFSS community
Welcome back properly to our kids and a happy goodbye to home schooling! A big thank you and acknowledgement to the staff and teachers for coping with, and often exceeding expectations on, the online learning platforms. It has been an intense time and we have all learned a lot.
The NFSS P&C has been somewhat on hold, like many other things, but there are some items we need to attend to and some news to update you on:
AGM & MEETINGS
The annual P&C AGM was scheduled to be in March and is now re-scheduled for
Tuesday 16 June, 6pm in the Hall.
The AGM usually runs approximately one hour.
Please note that you do not need to attend the AGM to become a member of the P&C, you just need to fill out the attached membership form – please print and leave at the office (hard copy preferred) before the AGM on Tuesday 16 June.
Also attached – agenda and previous meeting minutes
Under COVID19 guidelines we are allowed 20 people max. so please RSVP to secretary@nfsspandc.com.au. The AGM will be held in the school hall so we can maintain recommended social distancing for the meeting.
First preference given to those nominating for positions, which brings us to our next point…
ROLE VACANCY ON THE EXEC
The role of Secretary urgently needs to be filled.
This can be taken on by two people and shared – i.e. attend alternate meetings
The duties involve taking minutes, preparing the agenda, collecting the mail
Minutes do not have to be taken on computer! Can be written and typed later.
A role on the Exec is a wonderful way to get involved in the school, meet people and can even be added to an employment resume as genuine work experience. Please consider!
2020 FUNDRAISING EVENTS
All usual events are currently either cancelled or on hold.
We will miss out on Trivia, Hats & Heels etc but still crossing our fingers for the Halloween school disco and the colour run/obstathon.
Any fundraising initiatives will have to be of a different nature. As a result, we will consider all events under review at present and revisit them later.
UNIFORM SHOP
The School Locker is now our supplier for our uniform shop. The new supplier arrangements were a P&C initiative as a result of much research and evaluation.
We believe the new service will be a superior process – more efficient, improvements in quality and generally overhauled for the better.
TUCKSHOP
Our tuckshop is up and running again with a limited menu but we will keep increasing our menu over the next few weeks until everything is back to normal. Please see the school newsletter for weekly updates.
The tuckshop really needs support from the school community.
You may not be aware that the tuckshop does not make a profit and is in fact underwritten by the P&C – as what we believe to be an essential school service. The more support, the better the future prospects are. There will be more added to the menu as the term progresses – stay tuned for the hopeful return of the sushi special!
Thanks for reading this far and taking an interest in the P&C
