2020 Prep Enrolments
We began taking our 2020 Prep Enrolments at the beginning of Term 2 and this week we held our first round of interviews. As applications are received and finalised, our Enrolment Officer will contact parents and carers to confirm interview times. It is essential that applicants have proof of age (birth certificate or passport) and evidence of primary residency in our catchment.
Please submit your Expression of Interest form and Prep Interview Booklet, along with supporting documentation to enrolment@newfarmss.eq.edu.au or drop them into the office between, 9.30am and 2.30pm
Please refer to our website and look under the Enrolment Tab to find the checklist to ensure you have all the relevant documentation required to proceed your child’s application.
Report Cards
Thank you to Mr John Rafter for coordinating the reporting period for teaching staff. As final assessments are completed, report cards will be finalised and sent home in the final week of term 2.
Master Plan Community Consultation Thursday 6 June
Reminder – all welcome to attend our first session of Community Consultation on the NFSS Master Plan.
Venue: Hall
Time: 3-6pm
NCCD Information
Events
This week we have a range of extra curricula activities in which students are involved, including Band Blitz for our beginner band members, Year 3 City Hall excursion, Book Fair and our 2nd Gala Day.
School Uniforms
As we experience our cooler weather, I remind families that staff will be reminding students that they are expected to wear school jumpers which are labelled clearly with their names. Unfortunately a great deal of jumpers end up in the ‘lost property’ area under A Block as students discard them as they warm up during the day. Clearly labelled items are much more successfully returned to their owners.
City Cluster Assessment Moderation
As you are aware, we notified parents of a need to change our weekly assembly from afternoon to morning this week. The change occurred because we required our hall for the City Cluster Teacher moderation. All Teachers including class and specialists attend these gatherings across a wide range of city schools.
The moderation follows a set procedure for reviewing different standards of student work samples. This ensures there is a greater validity of student achievement standards across our year levels and across our various schools. Teachers analyse and discuss Marking Guides (Assessment Criteria) and Student grading. Regular networking in these groups allows teachers to share and listen to ideas and develop more consistent strategies and expertise.
Going on a Bear Hunt….
Our Prep students and staff enjoyed a wonderful ‘Bear Hunt’ last Friday afternoon, following a culmination of work on Michael Rosen’s well-loved book ‘We’re Going on a Bear hunt’. Congratulations to Ms Burridge and Mr Nash for preparing the afternoon’s fun with Mr Rafter playing a starring role as the ‘Bear’. The students and onlookers had so much fun.
Moderation of Assessment
Today our teachers will take part in Cluster Moderation Sessions from 3.30 p.m. These sessions involve nearly 400 teachers, from all across Brisbane, meeting at different venues, in year level groups to moderate samples of student writing.
The aims of today’s session, amongst others, will be:
- To cultivate open and rich professional dialogue amongst teachers.
- To foster a better understanding of assessment, and overall judgements.
In addition, New Farm teachers meet every term, in year level teams, to compare assessments and refer to samples provided by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority.
We value these moderation opportunities, both at a school and Cluster level, as they ensure the validity of our teacher judgements.

Hundreds of hours of rehearsal, multi-track recording, editing and mixing are coming together to create a New Farm Music CD. The Choir will have recorded 9-10 songs which go to press in the next few weeks. This recording project has been a great and unique experience for all the students involved.

The SCS have advised that there have been increased number of cars turning right on to James Street from Heal St, despite the sign.
ALL traffic must turn left, during 8-9am and 2:30-3:30pm. It does create a hazard for the SCS trying to cross children safely. I will ask the police to come out and monitor it in the next few weeks.
