Attendance FAQ's
What if my student is unwell?
Any child who is showing signs of illness or feeling unwell, should stay at home.
If a child is showing signs of illness at school, the school will contact the parent or carer to collect the child.
Does School Plus automatically know we are away?
No. If you have a regular booking with School Plus Outside School Hours Care, it is your responsibility to notify them directly if you need to cancel or amend a booking, will be away or if your student is absent due to illness.
Please phone 0458 052 153 or email newfarm@schoolplus.com.au
If you fail to notify School Plus of an absence Police may be notified in accordance with the 'Missing Child Policy'.
What if my student is attending a school activity somewhere else?
If the school transports students to an activity via bus or walking groups, the school will mark a roll and account for the students.
If you transport your student to the activity, please notify the school they have arrived and are participating in the activity.
To advise of an off campus activity, you can:
1. email absences@newfarmss.eq.edu.au
2. phone student absence line (07) 3358 7333 option 1
3. QParents app via 'Notify Absences' tab
How does the Absence SMS from school work?
If your student is not present at 9am roll marking and the office has not been notified they would be away, an SMS is generated and sent to parents. You are able to reply text to this SMS.
If your child/ren have a medical condition requiring regular or emergency administration of medication, please make sure you have supplied school with the following:
- All medications must be in the original container and have clear chemist labels with the students name
- Any allergy/asthma/anaphylaxis plans must be completed and signed by a GP
- All parents must also complete a consent to administer form that aligns with the GP directed plan - there must be a form completed for each medication
IF YOUR CHILD/REN SELF ADMINISTER THEIR MEDICATION THIS NEEDS TO BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED IN BOTH THE LETTER FROM THE DOCTOR AND IN THE ACTION PLAN
Parents are also required to provide a letter detailing their consent for their child/ren to administer their own medication.
Parents are welcome to drop medication to the Admin Office between 9am – 3pm daily.
Students are not permitted to transport their own medication. An adult must attend and provide medication and complete any require consents.
For all emergency medication, once it has been received and recorded by administration, all medication (e.g. asthma medication, anaphylaxis medication) will be put into a labelled box and stored in the administration building First Aid Room.
If your child/ren’s medical status changes (e.g. asthma action plan no longer relevant, allergy severity decreased etc) please let the school know via email through firstaid@newfarmss.eq.edu.au so that we may update our systems.

Prep Enrolments 2026
Our prep ’26 enrolment process has begun, with interviews for families and new students already underway. Our enrolment officer will confirm interview times once applications, including all required documentation and evidence of residency and birth certificates, are received.
Lunchtime Clubs
I would like to acknowledge our staff who run additional lunchtime clubs. These provide great alternative activities for our students and with the aim to tap into student interests, with this term including:
Staffing update
We are currently recruiting for our Head of Special Education Services (HOSES) position. This is the first year we have reached the student numbers to gain an allocation for this position. The HOSES will lead the Inclusion Pillar and work directly with staff and students to promote inclusive practices throughout our school.

Playground Games
We have some areas that are specifically tailored for particular age groups e.g. prep playground. In addition, students in years 1 to 6 have access to specific areas e.g. the oval or basketball court at certain lunchtimes. Aside from these logistical policies we encourage our students to play games with students from similar year levels.
Obviously, we appreciate some students refereeing games or giving some advice or siblings checking in with each other. However, ongoing games between much younger and older students can cause problems. Games can become too rough for younger students and or students can misread the game.
Before and After School Play
To help keep our school a safe and well-supervised space for everyone, the Prep area will be closed to parents and children after school, from 3:00 p.m.
The netball court and oval are both open for Yr1-6 play at 8.30 a.m. and the Prep area is open to Prep children, supervised by parents, at the same time.
Adventure playgrounds are not open to students, even with parent supervision. This is due to Education Queensland insurance requirements.
Reset Class
A Reset Class provides students with a structured opportunity to reflect on their behaviour, regulate their emotions, and reset before returning to the classroom. It is a short-term, supportive intervention used after classroom strategies and the school’s behaviour flow chart have been followed.
Students may be referred to their Reset Class for repeated or minor disruptive behaviours that have not improved with in-class strategies. It is not a punitive space, but a supportive one focused on reflection and restoration. The Reset Class provides students with a calm space to reflect on their behaviour and plan for a successful return to learning.
Our aim is to support students in making positive choices and maintaining a productive learning environment. If your child has been sent to Reset class you will be notified by the teacher. All students should know where their reset class is.

In Curriculum...
Yr 3 – Looking at Living incursion
Last week, students from Yr 3 were involved with an incursion looking at how healthy habitats support life for plants and animals. They explored water samples from Enoggera creek to classify living, once living and non-living components.
Students were really engaged with hands-on activities analysing water sources. They showed genuine excitement when they identified various critters in the water. After identifying and counting the variety of life in water samples, students were able to establish the quality of the water source based on their observations. Students then discussed how human actions have an impact on our water ways.
Reporting
Recently, students have been completing a number of tasks to demonstrate their learning over the semester. They have been busily writing information reports, explaining the movement of shadows, planetary systems or earth’s movement in Science (various year levels) and understanding historical aspects of daily life and significant changes over time, to name just a few. Teachers will be evaluating students’ learning against Curriculum Achievement Standards and reporting in coming weeks.
