Term Drills

Year 5 Camp
The cold weather did not deter our Year 5 staff and students from thoroughly embracing all that Emu Gully Adventure camp had to offer. The students begin camp with limited experience and knowledge of the hardship endured by our ANZACs but through the brilliant program, storytelling and simulated activities, they gain some insight into the reason the qualities of our ANZACs are valued and remembered as part of our Australian History. The students learn to work together to achieve challenges successfully and are often stretched to beyond their initial expectation. The enthusiasm and conduct of the students were very pleasing and I am very grateful to the staff team of Mr Fleming, Mrs Baker, Mr Thaker and Ms Pool-Warren who spent time away from their families to ensure students had this wonderful experience.
Prep Musical Extravaganza
A huge congratulations to the Prep students and staff on the fabulous performance ‘Imenagerie that!’ Thanks to the creative brilliance of Mr Peter Nash and Ms Bec Davis, every prep student was actively involved in this musical performance brought to life through a collection of favourite children’s stories. Mr Nash single-handedly created indicate costumes and sets for the performance. Amazing and cuteness overload!!! Thank you for your initiative Mr Nash.

Formation of Classes 2025
This term, we will begin the process of forming classes for 2025. This involves gathering information from teachers, students and parents.
Students will be asked to nominate three to five peers who they would like to be in the same class with, in 2025. From this list, they will be guaranteed one peer. They may decide to choose children they play with only at school or children of a different gender. Although you might discuss this list at home, it is an important part of the process that students are allowed their own voice.
As parents, you will be invited to share some information relating to your child’s learning and any particular personality clashes that you would like us to consider, when forming classes. Parent voice in this process, does not include requesting certain friends or particular teachers.
As a teaching team, we consider academic data, behaviour, learning styles, English as a Second Language and disabilities in forming class groups.
Please do not send any information or requests at this point; a link will be distributed later in the term.
As always, when classes are formed, they remain in draft until day 8 of 2025.

Peer Support
Our Students at New Farm State School will continue to meet in their Peer Support groups every even week on Thursdays. This term they will continue learning about the importance of friendships.
Types of friends was the focus at the end of Term 2. Children explored what encourages them to form friendships with different people (common interests, admirable qualities etc). Through activities, children identified that friends can fall into categories of 'best friends', 'friends' and 'people we know'. Children also discussed the fact that frienships change over time for various reasons. Discuss the different friends they have in their life and how friendships change. Some friends may be more important at different times in life.
This week in Term 3 Week 2 the Peer Support session, children will be focusing on the importance of support networks and the roles that friends play in each other's lives. Children will construct a visual representation of this during the session. Encourage your child to identify friends they have who can provide support if the need arises.
Named items are returned to classes so to ensure your belongings make it home safe please remember to clearly label everything.
