Drop and Go Zone – Heal Street
I would like to reinforce our Drop and Go Zone in Heal Street. Police have been patrolling the area and have made particular reference to the “All Traffic Must Turn Left” sign from 8 to 9am and 2.30 to 3.30pm on school days. They have booked cars wanting to either turn right into James Street and onto the pedestrian crossing or drive straight ahead through James Street. This is a very busy area at drop off and pick up times and I strongly suggest that you allow additional time to avoid any stress.
Please note the photos below of the signage in Heal and James Streets. I thank you in advance for your co-operation and keeping our students safe.
Disciplining your sensitive child
Disciplining sensitive kids is usually never straightforward. Sensitive kids, those creative, empathetic types who generally wear their hearts on their sleeve and take even the slightest criticism personally need to be handled with care.
It’s tempting to let sensitive kids do as they like, for fear of denting their self-esteem. But this approach does kids no favours as these children need firm boundaries to help them feel safe.
In this article Parenting Ideas founder Michael Grose discusses the discipline methods to use and avoid when raising kids who wear their hearts on their sleeve.
Sensitive kids respond well to the strength-based parenting approach - it’s the best approach to use by far. If you missed it, you can still watch this wonderful webinar by Prof. Lea Waters outlining the strength-based approach. This webinar is available for a short-time only.

- All interviews will run for 10 minutes.
- Your interview will start on time, even if the previous parent has arrived late.

- All interviews will take place in the assembly hall.
- To maximise the sound quality in the hall, the adventure playground will be closed for the duration of the interview sessions.
- Track Sports Day – Year 3 – 6
I wanted to compliment the students who were involved in the Yr3-6 Track Sports Day last week. Not only was their enthusiasm infectious, but their behaviour was exemplary; it was a pleasure to be involved. In addition, many thanks to all the staff, including the tuckshop volunteers, who worked before, during and after the day to ensure it was a huge success.
P.B.L. FOCUS OF THE WEEK

Jabiru Vacancies During Construction
With all the new exciting works happening within the school, we have been limited with what areas we can access to deliver our Jabiru program. To ensure we are continuing to provide a quality program for our enrolled families, we have had to unfortunately reduce the number of children we can accommodate for a few weeks, from 160 to 108. This number is based on the National Regulations for space requirements for an after school program.
What this means for our families:
We now have only 108 vacancies to offer each afternoon. Families with permanent/ongoing bookings will be unaffected, as they have already secured their spots on the roll.
- If you do not have a current booking and you think you may need one, we would encourage you to book immediately to avoid missing out on a place.
- If a child turns up to Jabiru, without a booking, they cannot be accepted.
- Should you be unable to book in for your needed day, you will need to email the service to be added to a wait list.
- Please advise us if your child is enrolled for any CEP programs (ie: karate, acrobatics, drama etc…), as this may increase the number of places we can offer on these days.
This arrangement is only temporary and we thank you for your patience and understanding during the construction and building works at New Farm State School. We will keep all of our enrolled families up to date with this progress, and hope to be able to waive the waitlist and resume accepting all bookings in the coming weeks.
