Classes 2023
We have started the process of forming 2023 classes and have gathered parent input from an online Form which closed on the 16th of September. The link to this form was advertised in the newsletter on August 24th, 31st and 14th of Sept .as well as class dojo.
I have received a number of emails from parents indicating they had not seen this information. For this reason, I am opening the Form, for this week only.
If you would like to share information relating to your child’s learning, personality clashes and other important family information, you are able to do so through the following link: We do not accept emails.

This link will be open until 3 p.m. on Friday the 14th of October
Please spread the word as this Form is the only way we accept parent input.
Little Play Zone- D Block
It has been wonderful to see the Little Play area being used by our students. I have noticed an increasing number of students using this area and the other D block spaces, before school. At present we have two areas available for play before school; the Netball Court and the Memorial Area. These areas are supervised by school staff.
For the time being, The Little Farm Area and the Adventure Playground are not open before or after school. This includes children who are accompanied by parents When one or two children access the area with parents, more students come into the area without parents. This can lead to large numbers of children playing unsupervised and is also a distraction for Prep and Year 1 staff who are preparing for the day.
We will be reviewing before school play supervision but ask that, in the meantime, you ensure your child is not in out of bounds areas before school.
Prep-2 Fun Run- Postponed
We had planned to hold a P-2 Fun Run event on the 18th of October, on the newly refurbished oval. Unfortunately, this area is not yet ready for student use so we are postponing the event. We are hopeful that this Fun Run will be the first event to be held on our refurbished oval and will let you know a definite date as soon as the oval is cleared for use.
Early Years Playdates- These commenced this week. Please rsvp admin@nefarmss.eq.edu.au or telephone 3358 7333. Please see the flier attached to the newsletter for further information.
Dance Program- This commenced for Years Prep to Year 3 this week, ending with a Christmas Dance Concert. Further details about the Christmas Dance Concert will be forthcoming. Creative Dance Industries provides the instruction while Class Teachers supervise, assess and report using the Australian Curriculum achievement standards.
Creative Dance Industries invites our school community to their special event- The Inspire Showcase- where they will take dance education to the next level. Showcasing cultural dances, street dance and traditional dance, students get to experience the elements of dance at their best.
Term 4 Overviews- Parents have been sent the Curriculum Overview for Term 4 for each year level, via Schoolzine. Please check your emails for this document so you can keep informed about your child’s curriculum focus for the term.
Eco marines
Term 3 was a busy term with our Ecomarine leaders, ambassadors and support crew, continuing to implement paper recycling in every classroom and keeping our grounds litter free (thanks to Bunnings, Newstead for all their kind donations).
Term 4 sees a new initiative in doing our part to protect our planet, thanks to ‘Containers for Change’ who are supporting this fundraising/ saving our world project.
‘Did you know Queenslanders go through 2.7 billion drink containers each year? We’ve created a way to recycle those containers that incentivises Queenslanders to recycle. Positively impacting our environment and the communities we live in.’

At New Farm state School we are encouraging our school community to also help recycle bottles. The funds made will go directly back into our school community. Our Ecomarines will be at the front of the school (Annie st), Wednesday morning at 8:30 to assist in placing bottles in the collection bins.
These are the rules for ‘Collection Wednesday’
- only bring bottles in on Wednesday (which contain recycling symbol on the label which most aluminium, glass, plastic bottles have)
- Remove all lids from bottles as we are not accepting them at this point
- No alcohol containers
- Bring bottles in a reusable bag, any incorrect containers will be sent home

- Are you storing and disposing of medication in the RIGHT way?
October is Safe Work Month, which is an annual event aimed at putting the spotlight on the importance of safe and healthy workplaces, improving rehabilitation and return to work outcomes for injured staff, and taking time for mental health.
The department’s theme for Safe Work Month this year is ‘Safety 365’, which is about working together to demonstrate and ensure our commitment to the health, safety and wellbeing of ourselves, students and anyone else who steps into our schools and workplaces every day of the year – not just in October.
Safe Work Month also ties in with the department’s value 'Work safe, learn safe, be safe'.
