Prep ’23 Enrolment interviews
At end of Term 2 we have 26 prospective enrolments. We begin interviews in Term 3. Please encourage any families with prep aged children to get their enrolments in as soon as possible as we hope to conduct the majority of interviews in Term 3. This is an essential part of predicting student numbers, allocating staffing and forming classes for 2023.
Inclusive Education - Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
The NCCD is a needs-based model of supporting students with disability in alignment with both the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005). Education Queensland’s Inclusion Policy also aligns with these key policies and gives guidance to how we develop our inclusive practices at New Farm SS. Our Inclusion Coach Cath Eurell is leading the annual data gathering for NCCD and integrates this work as part of our regular support processes. The main aspects include:
- knowing our students well,
- identifying the characteristics of individuals through consultation with students, parents or carers, specialists and teachers,
- identifying the impacts on access and participation in school,
- identifying the barriers which a person’s disability may have on their learning and participation, and
- developing adjustments to the curriculum, teaching strategies and assessments to support and enable every student to participate on the same basis as students who do not have a disability.
Pillar Champion Awards
At this week's assembly we will recognise staff and students who have been nominated as doing excellent work in the areas of Inclusion, Innovation, Curriculum and Well-Being. Award recipients will be posted on dojo and will receive a special badge for one of these pillars.

School Watch
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene.
Call the School Watch number – 13 17 88
Let’s work together to help create safer school communities.
If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.
You can report information about crime anonymously to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and community volunteer organisation, by calling 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersqld.com.au 24hrs per day.
READ WRITE Inc. HOLIDAY READING
New Farm State School subscribes to Ruth Miskin’s RWI eBooks. This subscription allows for students to be assigned electronic RWI books with matching book and phonic practice quizzes. It also gives access to many other eBooks to read for pleasure. Those students in Yr 1 and Yr 2 who are learning to read through the RWI program will be sent home log in details this week either in class dojo or as a paper copy in their bags. It’s a great opportunity to keep up the children’s phonic and reading skills over the holidays. Happy holiday reading!!
PBL Celebration Day - Friday 24 June
PBL Celebration Day-
As the end of Term approaches, we are getting ready for our Positive Behaviour for Learning Celebration of Learning Day.
Our Celebration day will be held on Friday 24 June, 2022 (The last day of Term).
On this day we are inviting students to come to school dressed as their own personal superpower. This does not mean come dressed as batman or wonder woman. This activity prompts your child to think about themselves and what makes them 'super'.
Every student will be doing a learning activity related to this in their classrooms and the activity will be sent home for you to see their ideas for dress up day.
This day is planned to be very relaxed, but fun! No extravagant costumes or expenses are required.
As a starting point for costume ideas; you might want to talk with your child about something they feel they are good at e.g. does your child play for a sporting team? They might come in their team uniform. Does your child love to cook on the weekends? They might dress as a chef. Is your child really good at Rubiks cubes? Cover them in coloured sticky note squares and they can come as a Rubiks cube!
Be fun and creative with your thinking.
While this activity is fun for our students to celebrate their learning this Term, it also ties in well with our schoolwide Wellbeing Program and promotes positive self-talk and interactions with their peers.
Our teachers are participating in this day as well - So keep an eye out and see if you can guess our teachers secret superpowers!
Attached is the activity that your child will be doing in their classrooms as well as a completed example. Hopefully these will help get you thinking of some fun, but simple ideas for Friday June 24.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Eurell, our PBL team leader on cjjon1@eq.edu.au

Students Health and Action plans
Health and Action Plans
Schools can assist students with health support needs such as diabetes, epilepsy, asthma and anaphylaxis. However, it is important to ensure they have an up-to-date copy of your child’s health/action plans. Speak to the school about how they can support your child. If needed, the school can access the State Schools Nursing Service for support to make sure your child is safe at school.
Tuckshop
The Tuckshop goes from strength to strength and there will be a welcome return of some old favourites on the menu in Term 3. Please continue to offer baking and volunteering by contacting hello@nfsspandc.com.au

Working on a Vision and Plan for the P&C
In Term 3 we will gather parents to help us work on a vision and plan for the P&C. We look forward to setting some goals with families at the school and working together on events and activities that support the school and build a stronger community.
.
Fundraising focus
The P&C Executive has had a lot of input on what to focus our fundraising on. The ideas so far include:
- Tuckshop sustainability and improvements
- Financial support for gardens and outdoor play areas that link to the curriculum
- Inclusion activities at lunch time and funds to ensure all children can participate in trips and excursions
- A Coffee Cart for the school to be a gathering point.
We will be further discussing and refining these ideas so make sure you let us know your views.
Future P&C meetings
Everyone is welcome to attend the P&C meetings. They run from 6pm-8pm in A Block on the following dates:
- 19 July
- 23 August
- 20 September
