Curriculum
Our HOD Ms Loudon is currently meeting with year level teacher teams to plan term 3 curriculum units. The focus of sessions is developing a deeper knowledge of both mathematics and technology curriculum and reviewing the assessment processes.
Preservice teachers currently on placement at our school have also been attending the sessions and participating in valuable discussions with their teacher supervisors.
This Friday Pebble Theatre begins for all classes, running from Friday 17 June through to Wednesday 22 June.
Life Education sessions have also been running over this fortnight and again students have found these to be very worthwhile.

Parent-Teacher Interviews July 2022
Parent-Teacher interviews will be held for years Prep to Year 6 on Wednesday 20 July and Thursday 21 July.
Interviews will be of 10 minutes duration.
For these interviews we are using the online booking system called Parent Teacher On-Line (PTO). It saves time for parents, staff and students!
Using this system, you will be able to book the interview times that suit you best from any internet enabled device. PTO also has its own free app for Apple and Android devices. Contact our school office, if you do not have access to a device.
The booking system will be open and live on Monday 20 of June at 3 p.m. No bookings can be made before this time.
This week you will receive a pink paper slip, from your class teacher, with your student’s EQ ID. You will require this, to log on, when our booking system goes ‘live’. Please keep this slip safe. N.B. No student names or dates of birth are used with this booking software.
Please access the system as follows:
- Scan the QR code that is on your child’s slip or
- Go to the school’s home page: https://newfarmss.eq.edu.au/ and select Parent Teacher Interview Bookings at the bottom of the page
- Click Obtain PIN/Password and enter your email address. Your PIN will be emailed to you.
- Go to Log in on the PTO home page and add the PIN that was emailed to you.
- Add your Student I.D. number from the pink slip
- Select teacher name you wish to meet with
N.B. Specialist Teachers will be available for limited bookings. We recommend only booking an appointment with Ms Lee (LOTE), Mrs Chen (LOTE), Ms Davis (The Arts) or Mr Rainbow (P.E.) if you have a specific question or concern for them.
- If two parents/guardians wish to attend, one parent/guardian should make the booking then both can attend.
- You will only see time slots that are available at the time you are using the system. As time slots are booked for teachers, those time slots are no longer displayed as available. PTO prevents double-booking of teachers or parents/guardians.
- When you have made all the bookings you require, you can download or email a report of your bookings in time order for printing. You can log in and change bookings any time up to 12 p.m. on the day of the interview.
- Other parents may be making bookings at the same time that you are using the system. It is possible, though unlikely, that a time slot is displayed to you as available, but is then booked by another parent shortly afterwards. If you then attempt to book this time slot it will not be available and a message will be displayed to indicate this.
- If you encounter any problems using PTO please contact the school office by phone on 3358 7333 or by email to kbrad27@eq.edu.au
Active School Travel
Let’s get physical!
Physical activity is not only essential for children’s healthy growth and development, it’s also important to learning. Physical activity - whether it’s team sports, playground games, or actively travelling to school - has positive effects on the brain and on academic performance.
During and after exercise, the flow of oxygen to the brain is increased and the number of brain neurotransmitters increases, assisting the ability to concentrate, learn, remember and manage stress. Physical activity also enhances classroom attitudes and behaviours, both of which are important components of improved academic performance.
All of these benefits not only lead to improved academic performance, but also enhanced social skills and higher levels of self-esteem.
Join us every Thursday and actively travel to school. Your body and brain will love it!
Field Event Day
Unfortunately, our Field Event Day for Yr3-6 will not be taking place this year. Our oval is not available and despite an exhaustive search of the local fields, we have been unable to find a space that is both available and dry enough to host our event.
Mr Rainbow will be contacting those students who were eligible to represent at District level, in the past, but due to Covid were not given an opportunity. These students will represent New Farm at the District Field Event.
Gala Day- No 'make up' days
The weather really disrupted two out of the three Gala Days, unfortunately, there is no ‘make up’ Gala Day on Friday.
PBL Celebration Day - Friday 24 June
PBL Celebration Day-
As the end of Term approaches, we are getting ready for our Positive Behaviour for Learning Celebration of Learning Day.
Our Celebration day will be held on Friday 24 June, 2022 (The last day of Term).
On this day we are inviting students to come to school dressed as their own personal superpower. This does not mean come dressed as batman or wonder woman. This activity prompts your child to think about themselves and what makes them 'super'.
Every student will be doing a learning activity related to this in their classrooms and the activity will be sent home for you to see their ideas for dress up day.
This day is planned to be very relaxed, but fun! No extravagant costumes or expenses are required.
As a starting point for costume ideas; you might want to talk with your child about something they feel they are good at e.g. does your child play for a sporting team? They might come in their team uniform. Does your child love to cook on the weekends? They might dress as a chef. Is your child really good at Rubiks cubes? Cover them in coloured sticky note squares and they can come as a Rubiks cube!
Be fun and creative with your thinking.
While this activity is fun for our students to celebrate their learning this Term, it also ties in well with our schoolwide Wellbeing Program and promotes positive self-talk and interactions with their peers.
Our teachers are participating in this day as well - So keep an eye out and see if you can guess our teachers secret superpowers!
Attached is the activity that your child will be doing in their classrooms as well as a completed example. Hopefully these will help get you thinking of some fun, but simple ideas for Friday June 24.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs Eurell, our PBL team leader on cjjon1@eq.edu.au
