What if my child is unwell?

Any child who is showing signs of illness or feeling unwell, must stay at home.

If a child is showing signs of illness at school, the school will contact the parent or carer to collect the child.

Planning Days

Teachers continued curriculum planning days this week on Monday and Tuesday.  The collaboration across year levels ensures that all teachers align their planning, teaching sequence and focus, as well as the assessment task.

Pick Up and Drop Off Zone

Thank you to all our drivers who are following our rules so that the area runs smoothly, drivers are not frustrated and children are safe.

Going Well:

• Drivers dropping children off only in the designated area where the signs and staff are
• Polite interactions
• Students arriving promptly at 3pm so that drivers are not waiting
• Students disembarking in timely way each morning

Needing improvement:

• Pedestrians should not walk across Heal Street in between waiting cars
• Bags or items should not be stored and retrieved from the boot of the car
• Pedestrians should wait at the crossing for the supervisor to indicate it is safe to cross
• Student name should be clearly displayed on the visor so that staff can call out names
• Some drivers still parking in pick up zones and across neighbour’s driveways

Safe and Relaxed Easter Break

After such a challenging term for many students, families and staff, I hope that the Easter break will allow some time to reconnect and refresh. I look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2 starting TUESDAY 19 MARCH. 

• Parent Teacher Interviews

We will be holding our parent teacher meetings in term 3 this year.  You will receive a report card as normal at the end of term 2 and will have an opportunity to discuss the report card at the meeting.  Date claimers will be sent out soon.

• Uniform Reminders
• As the weather begins to cool, it’s a good opportunity to buy your child his/her school jumper. Although students can wear other jumpers and jackets to school our school jumpers are the only ones to be worn at school.
• School shoes need to be predominantly black.

• Harmony Parade

On Friday we will be having a short parade to celebrate the diversity at New Farm State school.  Students have been invited to walk behind the flag of a country or culture they identify with.  They are also welcome to wear the national dress from that culture or wear orange.

Parents are invited to attend the parade which will begin at 9.30 a.m.  Our students will meet with flag bearers, on the oval at 9.15 a.m. and walk down the steps and across the netball court to the hall.  The best vantage point will be on the netball court, just before 9.30 a.m.  In the event of rain, the children will line up in the D block area and walk to the hall.

Active Travel School Project

We are excited to announce that New Farm State School is now a part of The Active School Travel (AST) program.  This council run program offers Brisbane primary schools a suite of free resources, tools and incentives to enable students, parents, carers and teachers to leave the car at home and actively travel to school. It’s all about creating healthier, more active students and families, increasing road safety awareness, safer streets and continuing to tackle traffic congestion.

The award-winning three-year program promotes road safety and sustainable and healthy travel options such as walking, riding, scootering, carpooling and public transport.

P&C notice

Tuckshop -      Open Wednesday Night  AND FRIDAY!
Wednesday Night - The Tuckshop is serving drinks and snacks at the Dance Extravaganza from 5:30pm-8pm Wednesday 30 March.  The Lions will also be selling sausage on bread from 5:30pm.

Friday -  The Tuckshop is opening on Friday 1 April with a simple menu to end the term.  Orders can be made on Thursday via Flexischools up until Friday morning at 9am.  The tuckshop is going CASHLESS (except for iceblocks).   If you are new to flexischools, instructions are: Getting started with Flexischools | Parents - Flexischools

The Ice-blocks are on sale Fridays 2nd break!

** In Term 2, the Tuckshop is opening 3 days a week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Years 3-6 Cross Country  

Wednesday 20 April 2022 (Term 2, week 1) 

After a successful day last year at our new course down at New Farm Park, we look forward to this year, feeling more familiar and anticipating the races! 

Attached is a course map and the number of laps for each age group. In school sport, this is organised as the age they turn this calendar year.  Races will determine who will compete in those events at District Cross Country trials next term, 29 April. 

We encourage any families and children who wish to practice the course to use the map to assist their preparation and build the fitness and excitement for the day! 

Event distances: 

Students Born 2014, 2013, 2012:  1 lap of course (~1.2km) 

Students Born 2011, 2010:  2 laps of course (~2.4km)

P-2 Fun Runs  The year level Fun Runs for P-2 classes will be rescheduled to a tentative date of Friday 12 August. 

This will enable us to run through our own school grounds later in the year when we anticipate less building obstruction, and can avoid the travel to New Farm soccer fields area.
