Kindy Counts for a Lifetime
At kindy, children can build confidence, play, learn, explore new environments and have fun learning with friends. No matter where you are from, kindy can be a welcoming community for children, families and educators and an important step in a child’s early learning journey. Many of the skills learnt at kindy will benefit a child well into their future. This campaign is an important component of Queensland's strategy to achieve universal access to kindergarten. The campaign encourages families to enrol their kindy-aged child in a Queensland Government-approved program, and promotes the lifelong benefits of attending kindy. Visit the Kindy counts for a lifetime webpage for information for families about kindergarten enrolment and the importance of early learning along with supporting children in the early years. https://earlychildhood.qld.gov.au/early-years/kindergarten

Dear New Farm Community
It has been a pleasure to work with the New Farm school community over 2021.
My highlight this year was definitely our gorgeous Harmony Day assembly and celebrating the rich diversity of cultures we have represented here in our school community. I am also grateful to have worked with some of our students who stepped through challenging periods and developed and grew their toolkit of responses to challenge and change.
As we enter the holiday period, I am sharing some links that might be of assistance over the Christmas vacation along with links to some activities that might be worth exploring:
The Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) has some fantastic exhibitions and they are free! The children’s activities are well worth a visit. https://www.qagoma.qld.gov.au/whats-on/kids
The Queensland Museum https://www.qm.qld.gov.au/ another wonderful, educational and free outing.
Queensland Museum Science Centre https://sparklab.qm.qld.gov.au/ Ticketed
https://www.familiesmagazine.com.au/school-holiday-activities-brisbane/ - online guide to activities over the holidays for families
Of course, there’s always picnics, the beach, park visits, art and craft, board games, backyard fun, walks, swimming and play along with opportunities for ‘downtime’ rest and recuperation after another BIG year.
Support and parenting links:
https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents
The eSafety Commissioner website is an excellent website with advice for parents and carers to help children have safe experiences online.
https://www.familychildconnect.org.au/
Excellent free support available for when the wheels fall off… or you just need some support when things are tough.
https://parentline.com.au/
Free counselling for parents and carers
An online community service directory for Queensland parents, families and professionals looking to find support
Finally, I would like to wish you and your families a wonderful festive season and holiday period and look forward to working with the school community again in 2022.
Stay safe and well and enjoy your time with friends and family.
Happy Christmas!

Teachers in other year levels may allow personal devices as a form of differentiation, depending on need.
The only device allowed in our New Farm State School’s BYO program is an iPad.

Congratulations and Salutations to Year 6 and leaving families:
64 Year 6 students will be leaving our New Farm school community to begin their next schooling journey this week. We are also bidding farewell to 49 families as they follow their youngest child.
To our departing families,
Thank you for all the reading, raffle ticket selling (& buying!), cakes, brownies, biscuits, school trips, tuckshop helping, setting up and pulling down, fete stalls, swim meets, sausage sizzles, and donations of every kind. Our school has been very fortunate to have had (and have) such passionate and giving parents.
There are a number of families in particular that have given an inordinate amount of time and enthusiasm to events and activities. Without them, New Farm SS would not be what it is today.
We wish all our departing families all the very best for the next chapter in your children's lives.
To our returning families, we look forward to starting the year off with a bang and hit the ground running!
Happy Holidays Everyone!
The P&C wishes you all the best for the festive season and 2021. Have a wonderful break!
