How do we organise classes for 2020?
Parents invited to share additional information relating to their child, for 2020. This invitation appeared in newsletters from September the 10th until October the 15th.
- Students nominated five friends that they would like to be in the same class with. We guarantee they will be with one of these friends.
- Data including academic, English as a second language and any learning difficulties/ disabilities are gathered.
- Teachers as a year level group, provide information on learning styles and compatibility of students.
- Using all this information draft class lists are developed and cross-checked to ensure a balance of gender, academic ability, learning style etc.
- Student numbers in year levels dictate if multi age classes are required. This ensures student numbers in each class are at an optimum level.
Students in multi age classes are not ‘extended’ or ‘held back, rather they access the full curriculum according to their year level. Teachers chosen for such classes are skilled in curriculum knowledge and ability to effectively organise multi age.
Whilst multi-age classes are a normal part of the school, we endeavour to ensure students will not be in more than one multi-age class whilst at New Farm.
