NAIDOC Week 2019 – Voice. Treaty. Truth.  Let’s Work Together

NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising activities during NAIDOC week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself.

NAIDOC week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Thank you to Ms Maslen and Sueche Dorante for helping coordinate this year’s activities for our students.

Staffing Updates

Thank you to Ms Rachael Siebuhr for her diligence as Acting Deputy Principal over the past month. Next Monday 29 July Mrs Bradley returns from long service leave to the position. Ms Siebuhr will then return to her regular position as Curriculum Coordinator.

We welcome Mrs Christine Barker who began this week on Year 3W while Mr Wilson is on leave for the term. Mrs Barker has done various contracts and relief work in our school and is familiar to many of the students.

Mrs O’Neill has taken leave for the remainder of 2019. Ms Judy Loudon has been appointed to the role of Inclusion Coach for this period. Ms Loudon is a very experience consultant with experience in special needs, inclusion, well-being, positive behaviour for learning and coaching. She will begin officially next Monday 29 July but is making some informal visit across this week.

Minister’s Visit

Last Friday Minister Grace Grace visited our school to view the upgrade of our oval and play facilities. The students were very pleased to talk to the Minister about the grounds upgrade and to show her the new classrooms in T Block. A group of Year 5 students also took the opportunity to show off their work with the ‘green screen’.
