National Reconciliation Week 27 May – 3 June
Each year, National Reconciliation Week is celebrated from 27 May–3 June. The theme for 2019 is Grounded in Truth – Walk together with Courage.
National Reconciliation Week marks an important opportunity for all Queenslanders to come together to commemorate and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage, and reflect upon the significant changes in our history for the betterment of Australia’s First Nations’ peoples.
As part of our Reconciliation Week celebrations, we will talk to students about significant of National Sorry Day, the 1967 Referendum and Mabo Day.

Traffic Around the School
At assembly this week I thanked students and parents for their adherence to the procedures in their use of our drop off and pick up areas, specifically the morning in Heal Street and the afternoon in Hawthorne Street. Staggered drop off and pick ups are also helping greatly to ease the congestion for drivers.
I have been contacted regarding a number of concerns about drivers double parking in the afternoon in Heal Street. This is a very unsafe practice and endangers students’ safety. I would urge parents to make use of the supervised pick up area in Hawthorne Street and avoid this problem.
Fete
Thank you to all our hardworking and dedicated Fete Committee who are working tirelessly to create a successful fete for our school on Sunday 16 June. I would like to acknowledge the contribution of our Convenor Laura Watson for the great work she has done with rallying parent and community support. It is a huge effort by all and the students are getting so excited as the day draws closer. A special thanks also to our class fete representatives and to our P&C Executive David Armstrong, Janelle Moody, Belinda Hill and Sheroo Wadia for their coordination and management of all our fundraising events including the fete. We have so many generous volunteers who help make New Farm a great school community, thank you so much.
