Consultation meetings
This week my focus is on consultation meetings. This has provided me with great insight into our students, their likes and dislikes as well as holding discussions on reasonable adjustments that are being provided and collaborative goal setting for Term 3. While we still have more meetings on Thursday and Friday this week, I have had to allocate some time next week to complete this process. Parents who I have not yet met, I look forward to connecting with in the following weeks.
Teachers are constantly adjusting the curriculum or the environment to better meet the needs of students. The work/support throughout Term 1 & 2 by Kahli McLeod and the team has provided the basis for these meetings. Students who have been identified as requiring substantial and extensive adjustments to access and participate alongside their same age peers have been the focus.
Education Department therapists
Education Queensland employs Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists as well as Advisory Visiting Teachers to help support schools in making adjustments for students with disabilities. These therapists are able to come to school to observe students in classrooms to provide some insight into environmental adjustments that could occur.
External Therapists
At times, students are supported by therapists external to the Education Department. Many of these therapies are provided in the home. If therapists are asked to come on site to deliver therapy programs, we need to follow Departmental Guidelines. This does involve access agreements and applications to the Principal. The Principal then makes the decision on a case by case basis.
Kookie Playgroup
On Friday this week, we will hold our first Kookie Playgroup. This is for our pre-prep students who intend to join New Farm in 2026. I look forward to seeing our future students and their parents on Friday.
