Curriculum and Classroom

Welcome to Term 3 and with it the opportunity for a number of extra-curricular activities. In Week 1, Peter Curby (Innovation Coach) and Deb Joynson (Highly Acc. Teacher) were part of teams leading Mini Festivals.

Mini Writers Festival

Dr Cameron Stelzer author of the Pie Rats, Scallywags and SOS book series, led a fantastic writing session for our young aspiring writers. There were lots of activities to encourage imaginative stories, develop skills to improve and extend writing, and share our work with our friends.

Mini-Coders Festival – Coding Creativity in Action
Selected Year 3 and 4 students have been participating in the Mini-Coders Festival, where they’ve explored the exciting world of retro game design using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade. Working in pairs, students applied Design Thinking to develop creative ideas, plan gameplay features, and troubleshoot their code. They learned how to write algorithms, code events, and program conditionals—all while collaborating through paired programming. Each student designed and coded their very own retro-style video game, proudly showcasing their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Reading remains a continued focus and can form part of afternoon and nightly routines. Encourage your child to read and be involved in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Forms were sent home last term and are due back at the end of Week 6 – Fri 22nd Aug. If your child needs a replacement form, please see your class teacher or email Mrs Krohn. Book week – Book an Adventure Friday 22nd August

This year’s Book Week theme is Book an Adventure. The Australian Book Council Shortlisted books have been ordered and are being shared with classes. They will then be in circulation and available for borrowing. Start thinking about characters and costumes your children may wish to dress as in the annual Book Week parade, Friday 22nd Aug. Costumes do not need to be elaborate. Sometimes, simple is the most effective!
