Playground Games

You may have heard from your child/children that we have paused handball games at school. The number of disputes over these games has grown rapidly this term and the follow up investigations have eaten into the learning and teaching time in classes.  For these reasons I have put a temporary ban in place.  During this time, I will be working with year 6 students to compile a list of school handball rules and the relaunch of these games will hopefully be more enjoyable for all.

On a more positive note, the long-awaited Basketball court has opened this week.  Thanks to the year 6 leaders who are modelling safe play on this court.

Medication

As the cooler months approach and colds and sore throats settle in, I’d like to remind you that students cannot self-administer medication. Our students are known to be generous and can share with others which can be dangerous. Medications can also be lost, found and used by others. If your child requires medication, please discuss with our office staff who will be able to supply you with the correct form and talk with you about safe storage and administration. This applies to natural and homeopathic medication.

Social Emotional Learning

We are committed to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment where every student feels valued. As part of our social-emotional learning focus, all classes are engaging with the second step program, which builds essential skills in empathy, emotion management, and problem-solving. This term’s focus is Problem Solving and I’ve attached a poster showing the language that is used school wide to support this learning.

Alongside this, our Peer Support initiative encourages positive relationships across year levels, with older students mentoring younger peers to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Together, these programs help nurture a respectful and connected school community.
