Schoolyard Explorers Incursion

Brisbane Urban Environmental Education Centre will be visiting our school on Thursday 15thand Friday 16th February.

Schoolyard Explorers is a two-hour incursion designed to immerse our prep students in the sensory investigations of living things, through exploring the natural and built environments in school. Our students will determine the basic needs of the survival of animals and plants through a series of observations.

Preps will embark on a sensory walk. The students use magic eyes and collect samples of insects and complete a habitat survey. Students sketch an insect collected on their walk to consider why the organism was found there and discuss the basic needs for its survival.

The program concludes with the class collaboratively creating a classroom collage of their sensory walk and discussing the human impact on living things.

Guided through a dazzling display, students will expand their understanding of the material world by describing observable changes to materials and sensing sources of light and sound.

Following the show classes will engage with the Cheeky Changes Workshop where students will be making, comparing and describing the physical changes of a bouncy ball.
