Celebrating Little Patch

We're proud to announce that our school has been recognized by Grow It Local as the co-winner of the National School Garden of the Year.
To celebrate this award, we had the honour of hosting the Co-Founder of Grow It Local, Darryl Nichols, as well as the Minister of Science, Leanne Linard, and the Minister of Education, Grace Grace in the Garden Tuesday this week.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Julie and Louise from our parent community. Their dedication in planning the event and their year-round efforts have truly transformed our gardens into the marvel they are today.

Beyond their beauty, our gardens provide a tangible context for our science and design curriculum, enhancing the learning experience for our students.

Grow It Local Award:

NFSS won the national Grow It Local Award in the category of “School Garden - growing the future”. The judges were PAUL WEST (chef, food grower, TV and radio presenter, and Grow It Local co-founder) & COSTA GEORGIADIS (Gardening Australia host and Australia's favourite gardener). We tied in first place with Clovelly Public School in Waverley, NSW.
The comments said: "Costa and I mulled over this one for a very long time, we went back, we went forth, we went for a peppermint tea and then came to the conclusion that we couldn’t choose just one winner in this hotly contested category. Both of these groups of young go-getters are taking their learning outdoors, getting their hands in the soil and making the world a happier, healthier and more delicious place."

3 ways to get involved in our school gardens!

The edible gardens at NFSS are run entirely on volunteer power and your participation is much welcomed! You can sign up for
1) a regular or one-off 15-minute shift with “Morninglife - observations and conversation in Little Patch”, 8.30-8.45am daily;
2) give an hour or two at any of our monthly working bees, held from 3-5pm on the first Saturday of each month,
or 3) dig in with occasional class projects like plant outs or pop-up cafes.
For details and other ways to contribute, contact Julie and Louise from the P&C’s Habitat Group at gardening@nfsspandc.com.au
