Book Week

We will be celebrating Book Week next week (Week 7) from Monday 21st August – Friday 25th August with guest readers, ‘Guess the teacher’s favourite book’ and a variety of fun activities in the library each day. Friday 25th August is dress up day where students are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite book character and we will be holding a special assembly at 9am – 9:30am in the hall. Parents are asked to spectate from the bark area as the students will need the breezeway to parade their finest costumes.

Queensland Road Safety Week 21-25 August

This year's Queensland Road Safety Week theme is 'Road safety starts with me' and runs from 21 to 25 August 2023.

The safety of our students, parents and carers, and staff is paramount, and we all have a role to play.

Students become road users at an early age, as a pedestrian, scooter or bike rider and they are our future drivers. Influencing positive road safety attitudes can never start too young.

It's not too late for adults in our school community to brush up on their road safety knowledge either. Our children are watching us and learning from us, and it's critical that we are modelling the safe behaviours we want to see today and into the future.

Consider how road safety starts with you:

  • Is it leaving 5 minutes early to beat the school rush?
  • Is it walking the extra distance to use the school crossing?
  • Is it giving a wave when someone lets you merge in front of them?

New Farm State School is proud to be supporting this year's Queensland Road Safety Week because we want our school community to get home safe so you can be there for the ones you love. On Monday 21st August staff have been encouraged to wear yellow to show their support.

Want to know more, simply download these helpful resources, wear yellow on 21st August to raise awareness, and encourage your friends and family to always take care on our roads. Visit the webpage for more information.

We all have a role to play in making our roads safe.

Getting Creative in Year 3

This term our year 3 students have been learning to play the djembe drums and also create their own rhythms. A djembe or jembe is a rope-tuned skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands, originally from West Africa. It is fantastic to see the creativity shown by the students and the engaging lessons from Miss Davis. Well done!
