Year 5 Emu Gully Camp
Last week our Year 5 students headed off to Emu Gully adventure camp near Gatton. It is a fabulous outdoor camp with some challenging team and individual activities. The students should be commended for their excellent behaviour and team spirit. Thank you to Mrs Baker, Mr Fleming and Mrs Hyams for supporting the students during the camp and spending time away from their own families. It was a privilege to attend and get to know the students in a more relaxed setting, where I was able to observe the dynamics of interactions. Emu Gully teaches our students the importance of learning from mistakes and developing team skills. The Emu Gully staff were very well organised and provided valuable feedback to students on ways to improve team work contributions.
Staff Update
Unfortunately, Mr Shih has finished at New Farm. Ms Robyn Alderman will teach the class until Ms Sally Poole-Warren begins in week 8 this term.
School Review
Our school will participate in a full school review in week 8 this term – this includes a review by 3 external reviewers over 3 days, 28-30 August. This will include opportunity for interviews with staff, students, parents and other community and school leaders. The outcome of the review will provide the school with its strategic direction for the next 4 years and will form the basis of our School Strategic Plan 2024-27.
Junior Sports
Thank you to Mr Rainbow, staff and parents for supporting students during Monday’s annual event. Weather was fantastic and students enjoyed their events. Thank you to Mr Rainbow for all the behind-the-scenes organisation that went into creating a fun filled event for our junior classes.
Transition to Prep 2024
Our Pre-Prep events have begun, including weekly interviews and our Kookie Play Group sessions. Thank you to Mrs Norman, Ms Eurell and Ms Keehan for organising and facilitating these sessions in Term 3 and 4. This is a valuable opportunity for new students and families to orientate themselves to school and meet friends and staff.
This Tuesday 01 August our Year 6 leaders hosted ‘Tours of the school’ for prospective families still considering enrolment. Further we are also holding our 2024 Prep Open morning and play session for students and families in Term 4 (date to be confirmed).
Flu Season
As you may know Flu season is upon us, and it is important to look after yourselves and take time to get well if sick. I have reminded staff to reinforce good hygiene messages with students such as always washing your hands with soap and water (including after using tissues, before and after eating and going to the toilet), and staying home when sick.
