AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM

All Qld State Schools plan, teach, assess and report against the Achievement Standards and Content Descriptors with the Australian Curriculum. Students are taught using this national curriculum, and teachers collect evidence regarding student’s capabilities against these standards. Assessments are moderated across the year level and the Brisbane City Cluster, so that there is a consistent approach to making an on-balanced judgement for End of Semester Reports. ‘C’ results are at the Australian Curriculum standard for the year level and a result to be acknowledged. Of course, we strive to have students achieve above year level standard, but sometimes the evidence does not currently exist for that judgement to be made.

Our Semester 1, 2022 results to be celebrated include overall 13.8% of students receiving As, 49.2% of students receiving Bs, and 34.6% of students receiving Cs. Recently our Assistant Regional Director discussed our increase in C-A results for students with disabilities. This is also an area to be celebrated as Differentiated Teaching and Learning sits at the peak of the School Improvement Hierarchy.

PLAYGROUP PROGRAM

We are extending the Transition to Prep Playdate Program to commence later this term. Invitations will be sent to local Early Childhood Education Centres and shared via the School Newsletter and DoJo. This will be a once per week 1.5hr program (9:30-10:45 for program and 10:45-11:15 pack up). Our Teacher Aide, Jo Keehan has successfully run this program for many years and it has been recognised by parents to be a valuable part of their child’s transition to Prep. We are looking for a parent/group of parents who may be willing to provide their time each week to support this program. They will be mentored by Jo Keehan and Judy Loudon (HOD Curriculum). Please email admin@newfarmss.edu.au if you are interested in helping out with this initiative.

  • 5% of children transitioned very well and mostly well
  • Email and Class DoJo were the most important source of information
  • Enrolment interview session was the most frequently referred to transition activity.
  • Challenges included COVID restrictions and full days
