From the Inclusion Coach

Our school is implementing the School Improvement Hierarchy Domain 7 ‘Differentiated Teaching and Learning’ with 83% fidelity. That’s a great achievement. As an Autism Friendly School, our staff implement ‘universal’ strategies in classrooms and across the school that are beneficial for all students. These include, but are not limited to-

  • Visual schedules
  • Pre-empting changes in routines
  • What to Do stories
  • Explicit teaching of routines and expectations
  • High rates of acknowledgement using the PBL Kookie Rules
  • Correction of students using the PBL response flow chart and Kookie Rules
  • Social skills explicit and incidental lessons
  • Active Supervision
  • Differentiating curriculum
  • Providing choice and multiple ways to respond

Our Inclusion Pillar Committee will be organising a parent feedback forum for parents of students with disabilities, learning difficulties, English as an Alternative Language or Dialect, medical conditions, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, and Gifts and Talents. This will be a small group of parents providing feedback on specifics of a recent survey sent to parents of students receiving substantial or extensive adjustments. I will be emailing parents, but if you feel you would like to attend, please email jloud6@eq.edu.au and if there are spaces available I will let you know.

Student Voice is one of the Inclusion Pillar’s strategic priorities. We have registered for the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey. This will be held in May and will require students to respond via an online survey, regarding their perception of their engagement and well-being at our school. It’ll be a great opportunity to acknowledge the work we have been doing with students, and also identify areas for further development.

Have you seen our new PBL signs around the school? They remind all our students, parents and staff of our Kookie rules- Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be A Learner.
