National Day of Action - Year 5 & 6 Permissions

This week we have send home 2 specific media consent forms for Year 5 & 6 students requested for activities on the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence on the 19th March.  Please complete these and send them back as soon as possible.

On Friday (19 March), the Education Department will stand with students across Queensland and Australia for the 11th National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). Almost all Queensland state schools will be taking part and empowering students to find solutions to help prevent bullying.  New Farm are once again participating and we are very exciting to be part of this year’s day of action and celebration.

Thank you to our Well-Being Committee led by Guidance Office Jo Minto and supported by Head Of Department Mel Norman for working with the NDA Education Queensland team in coordinating the whole school assembly Friday 19th March following with workshops for senior students.

Harmony Week (15–21 March) gives us the chance to celebrate our cultural diversity. Celebrating difference and leveraging the diverse knowledge, skills and experience of our community enables us to develop a rich cultural context at New Farm SS. As part of our special assembly this Friday we are holding a Flag procession celebrating the 70 different nationalities represented in our school.  We are so fortunate to be able to recognise and represent the vast diversity within our student community.  Students are asked to wear clothing of their national background or Orange which is the colour selected for Harmony Day.  The colour Orange represents social communication and is associated with joy, warmth, creativity and success.

Through the NDA students will revise our school’s Code of Conduct, PBL and ‘Bullying NO Way!’ anti-bullying strategies.
