Grandfriend Project

 We are very excited to announce the introduction of N.F.S.S Grandfriend 2021 project, in conjunction with AVEO Newstead Aged care Community.  This project was due to be actioned in 2020, but became one of the casualties of Covid. The aim of this project is to foster inter-generational links between our school and AVEO.  Research has found that these links have positive effects on both generations. 

All Prep Classes and 1H now have a Grandfriend for the year.  These volunteers, all with Blue Cards, will be involved in a range of classroom projects from reading to excursion helpers and with curriculum links e.g. local history and letter writing.  Teachers will also be inviting their Grandfriend to special school events throughout the year e.g. Anzac Day and Leadership assemblies.

This morning at assembly, we welcomed our 2021 Grandfriends, and anticipate they will soon become regular visitors in our school.  We also hope that we can extend this project to cover other aged care facilities and Grandparent’s in the future.
