As part of the New Farm State School master plan, the Department of Education (the department) has proposed to deliver a new learning centre to provide additional learning spaces and facilities for students.

The department is planning for the expansion project, which will include the closure of the Hawthorne Street cul-de-sac from Monday 14 December 2020 and the removal and relocation of four houses from Annie Street.

The road closure and house relocation are forecast to begin from Monday 14 December 2020, pending Infrastructure Designation and other required approvals.

The closure of the Hawthorne Street cul-de-sac and the house relocations will enable the construction of the new learning centre to commence. Heal Street and James Street will be our only pedestrian access into the school from Wednesday 27 January 2021. Pick up and drop off zones will be via Heal Street only from this date for all year levels.

Work has also been continuing on the design of stage 1.

The new learning centre for New Farm State School will include:

• 12 general classrooms;
• outdoor learning areas;
• a makerspace;
• breakout spaces;
• new play areas;
• staff and visiting specialists offices;
• staff parking; and
• improved connectivity and accessibility.
