  • Class Allocations 2021

Please encourage your child to view the change of classes, teacher and new classmates as a positive experience.  If they think they have no friends with them, remind them they can check their nominated friend list, with their current teacher or myself.  We have tried very hard to find the best fit for every child and have considered multiple stakeholders in each placement.  After classes are set we only move students in exceptional circumstances.

  • Open Classrooms - Thursday the 21st of January

Our classrooms will be open between 8 a.m. and 8.45 a.m. on Thursday the 21st of January.  If it is convenient you may visit your student’s new classroom and drop off some of the heavy books etc. If not, we will look forward to seeing you on the first day of the school year; Wednesday the 27th of January. Please be aware that teachers are fully timetabled for the rest of their student free days and this will be the only time classrooms will be open.

  • Medication

A reminder that all medications will need to be collected from the first aid room before the end of term.  Your options to ensure this medication is not left in the first aid room over the holidays are:

  • Give permission, in email admin@newfarmss.eq.edu.au or by telephone, for your child to collect the medication from first aid.
  • Collect the medication yourself, anytime Wednesday, but before 3 p.m.
  • Give permission, in email admin@newfarmss.eq.edu.au or by telephone, for the medication to be sent to Jabiru on Wednesday afternoon.

  • First Day Drop Off

Our first day of school is Wednesday the 27 January.  The bell will ring at 8.45 a.m. and roll will be marked at 9 a.m.

The parking around the school will be at a premium, with Heal Street being used as a drop off zone only so I would encourage you to think about the first day and the arrangements you will make.

Can you park a few streets away and walk?  Can you ride bikes or scooters to school?  Can you drop and go?  This may be a good option if you already delivered books to school and your student is a little older and has orientated himself/herself on the open morning?

  • Heal Street Pick up Zone

The extra pressure on Heal Street, will mean this zone will have to run at peak efficiency, both at drop off and pick up time.

There is No Parking in this zone during drop off and pick up.

Look Out Program

Drivers should remain in the car.  Staff can open car doors at the designated bay, if there is a child lock in operation.

Students will only be able to exit or enter the vehicle at designated bays from the kerbside.

If your child is not waiting at the pick-up zone, you will be asked to drive around the block.

Drivers should display their name on the windscreen, to enable staff to have students ready.

Drivers should note there is NO turn right from Heal Street into James Street.  Failure to do so holds up a huge amount of traffic and may result in a fine.

no right turn

We ask that you consider all other drivers, staff and students and use the zone correctly.  The increased pressure on this small residential street will be difficult initially, but we are confident that with everyone’s cooperation it will run smoothly and safely.

If you feel that the tighter restrictions do not suit your family and that you would like to get out of the car to say goodbye and help with bags etc. please use one of the neighbouring streets. In 2021, Heal Street will have double the amount of cars and many parents will be waiting to use the zone.

  • Uniform

A reminder of uniform expectations for the new school year.

It is an expectation that all students wear:

  • shoes that are predominately black in colour.
  • polo shirt with school logo.
  • shorts, skorts or school dress.
  • a school ‘slouch’ hat, for all outdoor activities.
  • hair, that is shoulder length or longer, tied up or back.
  • naturally coloured, not dyed, hair.

The following jewellery is permitted at school:

  • studs or small hoop earrings
  • jewellery of personal religious significance.
  • a digital or analogue watch, for timekeeping and step monitoring.

On cooler days students may wear:

  • maroon zip top with school logo, maroon vest, long sleeve tees, maroon track pants or bootleg pants (girls only).

This Uniform Policy is part of our enrolment agreement and is approved by our P&C.
