2021 School Captain Selections
Congratulations to all our School Captain candidates who demonstrated outstanding quality in their speeches last week. The students were well prepared and presented their ideas with confidence. It was a very difficult decision for all our Yr 3-5 students who took part in the voting. This week we begin our House Captain selections.
I am pleased to announce our 2021 School Leaders:
School Captains - Liam Malone and Pearl Quigley
School Vice Captains – Hugo Serisier and Aneliese Armstrong-Schofield
P&C Trivia Night Fundraiser
Congratulations to all the P&C fundraising committee David Armstrong, Laura Watson, Louise Ware, for organizing this year’s Trivia night. The event was well attended and it was terrific to see everyone having such a wonderful night.

Evacuation and Lockdown Practice Drills
Last week we conducted our whole school evacuation drill and this week we will undertake our Lockdown drill across the school. Thank you to staff, students and visitors for following the procedures during these drills.

- Class Allocations 2021
To enable us to begin forming 2021 classes, it is now helpful to know of students who will not be returning to New Farm in 2021. Please inform your current class teacher if you have definite plans that will mean your student will not return in 2021. This does not include our current yr 6 students.
I have received a number of requests from parents for students to be placed with particular friends in 2021. Unfortunately, these requests will not be actioned. Our students have an opportunity to list friends they would like to work with and parents’ choices may not match their own child’s choice. In addition, the request may not match the other student’s choice of friend or a teacher’s recommendation for 2021.
In week 10, our students will have an opportunity to meet their 2021 teacher and classmates and spend some time in their new classroom.
- Tenerife House Disco
As the students from Tenerife House collected the most money for Obstathon they have won a lunchtime Disco. This Friday, the 6th of November, Tenerife students will be able to take part in a lunchtime disco, in the assembly hall.
Time - 12.50 p.m. – 1.10 p.m. for Yr4-6 and 1.20- 1.40 p.m. for Prep – Yr3.
Dress code – house colours (green) and disco hair (no colours)
- Heal Street Pick up Zone
We are going to make some adjustments to our pick up zone in Heal Street as our current model, is causing traffic jams in James Street. From next week, we will trial the following:
- Cars parked in the zone will be asked to move on, if their student is not ready for collection.
- Students will only be allowed to leave when their car is at the gate nearest the bottom of the hill.
We hope that this will speed up the process and reduce traffic problems in James Street. To further improve traffic flow we ask that parents:
- only arrive after 3 p.m. for pick up. B. 3.05 p.m. – 3.15 p.m. is much quieter
- display a name card
- do not call their child out of the gate, when further back in the queue or across the road.
- remember to only turn left into James Street.
- remain in their car.
We will review this at the end of next week, in consultation with the Brisbane City Council. As this service is a voluntary one, which can be quite stressful for staff, we appreciate the support of parents.
If you would rather not be part of the pick-up zone process, please park in a different street and walk into school to collect your child.
Melinda Norman
Thank you to our P&C!
A huge THANK YOU to the P&C for raising a total of $16178.65 in donations from the Obstathon last term! An amazing feat and thanks to all the families that supported this event. These funds have been gratefully received and will help support our NFSS Arts curriculum for 2021. We have purchased 5 brand new 3D printers and can’t wait to put these to good use with our excited students. Looking forward to showcasing our work with you next year!
Here is a photo of our new additions just out of their box:

Olympics unleashed
Recently our Year 6 students met David Mckeon via Microsoft Teams, an Australian competition swimmer who competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. David spoke to the students about his journey from competing in school swimming races to reaching Olympic level races. He reminded students that it takes motivation and persistence to achieve success and encouraged students to follow their passions.

On 4 August 2020, an explosion in the heart of Beirut sent a mushroom cloud into the air and a supersonic blastwave radiating through the city. It was felt in Turkey, Syria, Israel, Palestine and parts of Europe, and was heard in Cyprus, more than 250 km away and was considered one of the most powerful non-nuclear explosion in history.
We thank Erin and her family for being so caring and supporting others in need across the globe. Erin and her family chose to donate the money to Lebanon as they wanted to help others and these people were greatly in need.
