2021 Prep Enrolments – Now Enrolling
Thank you to all those parents who getting word out to friends and neighbours about enrolling prep students for next year. We now have 70 students enrolled and we look forward to move coming forward. Further information about our virtual tour, the visit to prep morning and the play dates will be send out in early term 4.
Extra Curricular Activities
This Wednesday Yr 5 will enjoy their excursion to the Planetarium and on Thursday the whole school will participate in the P&C Obstathon Fundraiser. Remember to wear your House Colours – Binkinba Red, Teneriffe Green or Merthyr Yellow. Unfortunately this is a student only event and parents are not permitted this year.
COVID Update
The 3 main points for us all to adhere to, to help prevent the spread of COVID19 in our community, are:
- Social Distancing
- Wash Hands regularly
- Get tested if you develop any symptoms or feel unwell
Finish Strong
As we reach the end of term, it is important to remember that we can refocus and ensure we make the most of our teaching and learning time. When we keep routines in place and ensure our learning is still meaningful, students are able to feel safe and supported in their environment. It is generally when we break routines and focus slackens, that we are operating at less than our optimal.
Stephen MR Covey talks about when world-class marathon runners ‘hit the wall’ and they feel like they can’t go on, instead of focusing on their exhaustion and how tired they are feeling and going into the ‘survival shuffle’, they lift up their head and pick up the pace. I believe this is a vital mind-set for staff and students in schools at this time of the year. By picking up the pace, you are really saying to yourself that you are not just going to finish, you are going to finish strong!
Term 4
I wish all families a safe and relaxing break and look forward to seeing you all again on the first day of Term 4 – Tuesday 06 October.

Obstathon – Thursday the 17 of September
Some important information relating to this fun, fundraising event organised by our P&C
- Funds raised will be contributing to the Arts curriculum 2021
- Students will be allowed to their house colours on the day. All clothing must be ‘sunsafe’.
- The pedestrian gate on the oval, will be closed all day, to facilitate the setting up and packing up of equipment.
- Year 2 – 6 students will be dismissed from classrooms at 3 p.m., as the oval will not be available.
- Students should return money raised, to the P&C representatives who will be waiting at each school gate at drop off time this week.
- Classes 2021
The deadline for completing parent information forms, relating the 2021 classes, is fast approaching. In term 4 we will begin to form classes. It’s important to remember that requests cannot be guaranteed. If multiple parents make requests for students to be apart it can be impossible to split children in a limited number of classes.
As we form classes, we do cross check requests with behaviour data and teacher input and then reach the best outcome possible.
- Double Shot Café – Oxlade Drive
We would like to acknowledge the Double Shot Café, for their support with our PBL this year. The café supplied vouchers, which were given in the Pick-up/Drop off zone, to encourage our ‘Being Safe’ and ‘Being Responsible’ expectations.
Kookie visited the Preps to show them how to be safe while playing. The Preps loved him and are looking forward to seeing him again someday next week.
Thank you so much to everyone who supported the book fair this year! Every day was extremely busy with many keen students excited to buy books and stationery from the book fair. We sold approximately $8000 worth of items giving New Farm State School approx. $1600 in rewards to spend on new books for the library over the next 12 months.
A big thank you to those parents who donated a book to the book fair. We deeply appreciate it!
We had 6 lucky raffle winners who got to spend $10 at the book fair, they were:
Billy B - Prep B Jackson R – 6Z
Asley B – 6Z Etta M – 2MA
Matthew B – 4C Obi A – 4C
For those students who ordered books at the book fair, it is likely that the books will arrive in Term 4 week 1 as it so close to the school holidays. My sincere apologies to all those students who were keen to have their books and items for the holidays.
EQ Digital Library
Don’t forget that all students still have access to the EQ Digital Library for fiction and non-fiction books. Students just need their MIS ID and there is no password.
Super searcher award
This award goes to students who are super searches and are discovering all they can about a topic through books in the library or the EQ Digital Library. The topic may be a personal interest or class project. This week the award goes to:
Riley W - 1SR
Alexis W - 4W

Well Done Owen!
The African drum group will start up again in term 4. This is an inclusive and fun activity. Due to limited numbers of drums Mrs Louden and Mr. Chapman have selected 28 students that will be offered a spot in the group. More spots may open up. Students that have been chosen will have a letter sent home to parents. Parents must only need sign the return slip if they do not wish their child to participate. If some of the original 28 students do not join their will be some extra spots given. This is an exciting and fun project led by Mr. Chapman. Get your rhythm on.
Today is Are you OK? Day
R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that every day is the day to ask, “Are you OK?” and support those struggling with life's ups and downs.
We're never too young to look out for one another and lend support. In this video, Alec shows you how to be a good friend and ask "Are you OK." How to be a good friend and ask if you are ok video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=4&v=KEKhTSagJ3I&feature=emb_logo
This year's message is 'There's more to say after R U OK?'

For teachers, parents and carers:
While children can't be expected to fix someone’s problems, they can be encouraged to listen to what their friend is saying, show they care and tell a teacher, school counsellor or trusted adult if they are worried about their friend. This video shows them how to do that.
We have an enormous amount of lost property currently awaiting collection.
If you have not claimed these items by Thurs 17 September these items will be either disposed of or donated back to the uniform shop. Lost Property is located under A Block near the uniform shop.
Please remember to name your children’s clothing, this makes retuning these items much easier.
