- Dismissal and Pick-up Arrangements
A big thank you to everyone for helping us adapt our pick up and drop off arrangements. A couple of adjustments:
From Wednesday the 12 of August, siblings of Prep students using the Heal Street pick-up zone will be able to meet their brother or sister at the Heal Street gate at 2.55 p.m. This will enable the early Prep parents to make the one pick up in the zone. All other students will make their way to the pick-up zones at 3 p.m.
In the event of heavy rain, all year 1-6 students will be dismissed from classrooms. We ask parents to remember to socially distance if waiting under the buildings for your child.
The Prep train does operate from 8.30 a.m. but it is not necessary for your child to be at the gate at this time. Our lovely teacher aides operate the Prep train on a loop until 8.45 a.m.
- Parent Teacher Interviews
In term 2, we were unable to hold our parent teacher meetings due to Covid restrictions. We were planning to reschedule for term 3. Again the restrictions around Covid have meant that we can’t hold the face–to-face interviews that are so valuable to our school/home relationship.
We are pleased to announce that telephone interviews will be available this term as an opportunity to discuss report cards and learning goals for your child with your class teacher.
The logistics for these conversations will be communicated in next week’s newsletter. These short interviews will be held on request and one interview will be given for each child unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Telephone Interviews
Our NFSS teachers are looking forward to sharing your child’s progress and report cards during telephone interviews to be held soon. I encourage you to use this fantastic opportunity to speak one-on-one with your child’s teacher to discuss how your child is traveling socially, emotionally and academically. Positive parental involvement and communication between teachers, parents and students is vital in ensuring your child gains the most out of the learning opportunities presented to them.
Visitors to the School
A reminder that all visitors to the school must sign in at the office. Your name and phone contact number must be given as part of the COVID-19 contact tracing procedures. Visitors must practice social distancing and keep 1.5m apart where possible.
Lost Property
Please ensure your child's clothing is clearly labelled with name and class so it doesn't end up on our "Lost Property" table.
Library Books
We have quite a few overdue library books this week, 130 books in fact. If your child has any overdue library books, please send them back to the library as soon as possible so other students may borrow.
Before School Procedures
Once you have dropped off or collected your child, we kindly request that you leave the school grounds as soon as possible. Staff are on duty as of 8.30am to supervise the Heal Street drop off zone and escort prep students to class via the ‘Prep Train’. Thank you for your cooperation in moving your car forward to the drop off sign. This assists us in keeping students safe when exiting your vehicle.

RETURNING HOME READING BOOKS
Thank you to those students and parents in Prep, Yr 1, Yr 2 and Yr 3 who are returning their Read Write Inc and levelled home reading books to school each week. Just a reminder,
Prep students return their home reading books every Thursday. Three new books are given out on a Friday.
Yr 1 students return their home reading books every Thursday. Three new books are given out on a Friday.
Yr 2 students return their home reading books every Friday. Three new books are given out on a Monday.
Yr 3 students return their home reading books every Friday. Three new books are given out on a Monday.
Unfortunately, we are unable to give students extra books to take home if they have not returned their home reading books from the previous week.
Redgum Book Club
Redgum Book Club is back and online!
Please open the following link to the current catalogue https://www.redgumbookclub.com.au/browse/currentcatalog to browse and order books.
The online catalogue will close on Monday 24 August. Every parent order will earn Redgum credits for our school to buy new books for our library.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Only 3 weeks left to enter into the Premier’s Reading Challenge. It’s not too late to grab a form from the library now and start reading!
Students are to return their completed forms to the library and Mrs Lamb will register their total amount of books read during the challenge.
Book Fair 2020
We are very excited to announce that Book Fair 2020 is coming in term 3 week 8 and 9!
There will be lots of books and stationery for sale and NFSS will receive a percentage of all purchases that will go towards more books for the school library!
The book fair will run a little differently this year due to the current COVID-19 situation:
- No parents to come into the book fair on the school grounds.
- Students will bring home a wish list of books and stationery they have seen at the book fair.
- Parents can make a purchase online and students will be given the book/stationery at school.
- Students can still take cash to school to spend on any item in the book fair.
More information will be given during Term 3 week 7.
Any queries please email me alamb105@eq.ed.edu.
Happy Reading!

Fortitude Valley State Secondary College
Want to join a high school that is creating a community of agile learners who are bold, resilient and kind? Fortitude Valley State Secondary College (FVSSC) is open for enrolment expressions of interest for students entering Year 7 or 8 in 2021. Expression of Interest Forms (EOI) are available on our school website (https://fortitudevalleyssc.eq.edu.au/enrolments).
All students wishing to join our school community must complete an EOI and return it to our FVSSC office as soon as possible. For those who live within our catchment area, we will make contact with you to arrange your enrolment interview once all necessary enrolment documentation has been completed.
If you are interested in joining our FVSSC community, but live outside of our catchment area, we still welcome you to submit an expression of interest now. Notification of out of catchment acceptance will be sent at the end of Term 3, with interviews arranged early in Term 4.
If you have not yet had an opportunity to meet our fantastic team, view our beautiful new facilities or to speak with our incredible students, we invite you to register to attend one of our scheduled Open Days this term. Registration details for these events will be sent to parents/carers upon receipt of an Enrolment Expression of Interest. (Please note that while we are planning to hold our Open Day in August, this will be contingent on the Covid-19 restrictions in place at that time.) Further information will be available on our website and Facebook page in the coming weeks.
