Last week we selected our House Captains and this week we complete the selection process with the selection of Project Captains. The students have done a wonderful job preparing for their speeches and interviews. I understand that not being selected can be disappointing and for that reason I have been impressed with the resilience shown by all of our students. I know that helping students build their resilience is an important part of life and parents have supported their children very well during this process.
2019 School Captains – Charlotte Serisier and Trey King
2019 School Vice Captains – Scarlett Ruddy and Lysander Cameron
2019 House Captains:
- Merthyr House Captains – Joseph Bentley and Jewel Hsar
- Teneriffe House Captains – Frankie Meadmore and Angus O’Connor
- Binkinba House Captains – Callum May and Layla Millar
Summary of key dates:
- Thurs 29 Nov 9am - 11am – Principal interviews shortlisted students
- Thurs 29 Nov 12noon – Principal announces the 2019 Project Group Captains
- Tues 04 Dec – 2019 School, House and Project Captains introduced to school on assembly
Evacuation Drill – Last week we held our final drill practice for the year. The classes have been consistently practising walking in an orderly manner throughout the school and this made our final drill extremely efficient.
A reminder to all parents that our annual Christmas Dance Concert will be held next week Tuesday 04 December. We would love to see you all there.
***Reminder- there is no food or drinks to be consumed inside the hall.***
2019 Staffing and Class Allocations
I am still finalising our staffing for next year and hope to have our ‘teacher postcards’ out to students in the final week of school. The postcards let the students and families know who their teacher is and shares a welcome message with the students.
The class allocations are underway as we ensure we consider: written parent requests, student friendships choices, teacher recommendations, special requirements and a balance of abilities. These are the main considerations but depending on specific student needs, we may also take other aspects into considerations. Needless to say, the process is complex and much time and care is taken to ensure we have a balance across classes.
Staffing Update
I will be taking long service leave in the last week of school this year. I will certainly miss seeing our Year 6 leaders graduate and farewell our community on the last day. I am very proud of the students’ achievements throughout the year and wish them all the very best for secondary school. I have absolute confidence in my leadership team and know that the school will be in good hands.
Mrs Bradley is currently on leave and Mr Rafter is acting Deputy at this time.
School Community
The Queensland Givernment is committed to providing state schools with greater autonomy in decision-making and increased capacity to work in new ways to maximise learning outcomes.
Since 2013, 250 schools have commenced as independent public schools in Queensland.
All state school principals and their communities are invited to consultation sessions that are being held across the state in November and December 2018 to discuss the recommendations of the report.
There will be a parent/school community session at Windsor State School on Wednesday 28 November from 5pm to 6pm. All are welcome. To register please follow this link - Parent and school community members sessions.

Invoices
As we are coming to the end of term and year, we are now finalising all invoices.
Please note that there are still outstanding invoices for the following events:
Dance - $20 per student – once the invoice has been paid, an actual physical ticket will not be required for families to attend the Christmas Dance Concerts on 4 December, as numbers for seating are gathered from returned permission forms and fee payment.
These invoices are now extremely overdue. Kindly make payment by 30 November to ensure attendance.
Yearbook - $30 per copy – we are only ordering Yearbooks according to the orders and payments received. The orders have now closed. If you have any queries and would like to order and pay for a Yearbook, please contact admin@newfarmss.eq.edu.au by tomorrow (Wednesday).
If you have any queries regarding these invoices, please contact Elena Anderson, Business Manager at admin@newfarmss.eq.edu.au.

New Farm Neighbourhood Centre Fundraiser
The New Farm Neighbourhood Centre provides a social hub for people to meet and have a chat, as well as participate in a range of activities and tap into local support services. In addition, they run an open house with computers, kitchen, laundry and showers and offer advice with housing and legal issues.
On Thursday, the 6th of December, the New Farm State School’s Community and Charity Group have decided to hold a free dress day to support the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre. This Thursday is a free dress day for all students at New Farm State School, but do remember to wear sun safe appropriate clothes, school shoes and school hat for outdoor play.
Also, don't forget to bring along a gold coin donation to help the local community at the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre.
Thank you for supporting the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre and the Community and Charity Group!
Swimming Carnivals- important information
Friday 30 November and Friday 7 December are our Interhouse Swim Carnival Days!
Friday 30 November – Prep and Year 1 (morning session); Year 2 and Year 3 (Middle session till 3pm)
Friday 7 December – Year 4 to 6 (all day)
We look forward to a great time as usual, full of house spirit, friendly competition in the strokes and fun races mixed in there too.
To help your child be prepared for the day can you please remember the following:
- House colours are encouraged to be worn
- A swimming cap, sunsafe rash vest, sunscreen, water bottle, school hat, towel and their own goggles are required.
- It is a student only event, as since our numbers and pool area size do not cater for extra spectators we ask parents and carers do not attend unless volunteer roles have been given.
- It is a participation carnival and students are expected to swim in all events they are capable of.
- There will be numerous adults in the pool to assist less strong swimmers in the lower year levels.
Kind regards,
Kent Rainbow PE Teacher
