Please also note that the final committee meeting will be held on Wednesday 18 September now – changed from Tuesday 17 due to Community Spirit awards ceremony.
STEM focus
Year 6 students and teachers have really enjoyed the trial of one-on-one devices in their classrooms. The teachers have reported the increased engagement in learning and attention to tasks. Students have enjoyed the opportunity to have the technology at hand and their individual creativity with STEM.

2020 Prep Enrolments
We continue to enrol new students with our current enrolments at 522 up from 504 at day 8 this year. Our current 2020 prep enrolments are 60 which equates to 3 classes and we anticipate this could likely increase to approximately 90 by December.
Our playdates are planned and our Open Day will be held on Tuesday 29 October 9-10:45am.
Canberra
Our staff and Year 6 students headed off to Canberra this morning. Very excited and looking forward to their week away. Their itinerary is packed with many and varied educational and fun activities which we look forward to hearing about. Photos and updates will be shared as they are sent to us by the staff on the excursion.
NAPLAN Reports
Our individual student reports for Year 3 and 5 students have arrived and will be processed and sent home this week. Congratulations to all students for their results. This is a point in time test and parents are reminded that results should be considered in the broader sense of all relevant assessment across the school year. This Year our Yr 3 results have shown an outstanding improvement in all areas of the testing. Further analysis of the whole school data will occur in due course as we reflect on whole school results and focus areas for the coming year.
Canberra Camp
Our year six students set off bright and early this morning for their much-anticipated camp to Canberra. The focus of this camp is Civics and Citizenship and with visits to Parliament House, the Electoral Commission, Museum of Democracy and the War Memorial it is a busy few days. After camp, students will be able to explain the role and importance of people, institutions, and processes to Australia’s democracy and legal system. and describe the rights and responsibilities of Australian citizens and the obligations they may have as global citizens.

Get involved in the School Banking program.
New Farm State School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2019 are:
* Scented Stackable Highlighters
* Snowy Origami Set
* Icicle Slapband Ruler
* Yeti Fluffly Notepad
* Arctic Owl Fluffy Keyring
* Scratch Art Cards
* Water Skimming Bounce Ball
* Polar Pencils & Pencil Toppers
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
- Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
- In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is every Friday (except for the first and last Friday of each term). Each week you just need to hand in your bank book between 8.15 - 8.45am outside the Library.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2019 School Banking program information pack at banking on Friday morning or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
