Quadrennial School Review Consultation 2019
This term New Farm State School community will undertake consultation with students, parents and staff to reflect on our current practices and gather ideas for further improvement and innovation into our next 4 years. The consultation process will be facilitated by external consultant David Curran. David has a rich experience in Education throughout Qld and is currently an external reviewer with the School Improvement Unit.
The core QSR Committee includes: Carmel McGrath (Principal), Kay Bradley (Deputy Principal), John Rafter (STEAM Coach), Fatima Zayn Al-Abidin (Year Level Coordinator Year 6), Cristian Arredondo (Year Level Coordinator Year 2), David Armstrong (P&C President) and Janelle Moody (P&C Vice President).
Over the next term there are a number of opportunities for students, parents and staff to provide their ideas and suggestions about what should be our key priorities. The collation of this data will come together to formulate our 2020-2023 Strategic Plan. This document then directs our Annual Improvement Plan and budget each year as we review progress.
Next week teachers will work with student leaders to develop an age appropriate consultation session for all students to have their say in our future plans. Student leaders will also be talking to parents before and after school next Thursday and Friday and recording their ideas. Consultation will be guided by 4 key questions which are attached for your reference.
Parents will have a chance to
- talk to student leaders,
- respond individually with the handout attached which can be handed in at the office or scanned to admin@newfarmss.eq.edu.au
- attend a parent forum with David Curran on Tuesday 13 August 3-4pm in B Block.
I encourage you to get involved with the process which occurs every 4 years and is critical to establishing our key priorities for teaching and learning resourcing.

There are so many deserving students, parents and staff who do extraordinary things for our school and it is an honour to celebrate their contributions. Please take time to nominate one of those deserving people.
Kay Bradley
Thank you to Ms Siebuhr for looking after my desk in my absence. Arriving back to school refreshed I have been reminded how busy our school is. I’m excited that we now have a Walk to School Bus underway and will be looking forward to joining the students for one of their walks.
Just a reminder that jumpers worn at school should be New Farm jumpers. These can be purchased from the uniform shop.

Congratulations to Ceclia and Genevieve for participating in the KWTSB Scavenger Hunt competition and each winning a $150 New Farm Cinema Gift Voucher.

Community & Charity Group
At Assembly this morning, the Community and Charity Group Captains awarded members of the New Farm Neighbourhood Centre a cheque for $504.40. Funds were raised from the bottle collection initiative last term. Well done team!
School Opinion Survey
The School Opinion Survey is undertaken each year by the Department to obtain the opinions of parents/caregivers, students and school staff about the important aspects of schooling. The survey is designed to help school identify what they do well and what they can improve. Parent/Caregiver survey slips will be issued to the eldest child in each family this week – please keep your eye out for these. Student surveys will be completed in school time. All surveys will need to be completed by 23rd August 2019.
Assembly Change – Week 4
Please note there will be a change to Assembly day in Week 4 (next week) – Friday 9 August. Our Concert Band have been busy rehearsing and refining their skills. Mr McIntyre will showcase his amazing band at this 9.10am assembly.

As many of you would know, the New Farm Deli burnt down earlier this month. Plans are underway already to have the Deli reopened by November but the whole of Merthyr Village has felt the effects of the fire. Merthyr Village has always been a generous supporter of our school and it’s our turn now to support them. Please shop at Merthyr Village whenever you can and help the Centre get back on its feet.
Thank you

Get involved in the School Banking program.
New Farm State School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2019 are:
* Scented Stackable Highlighters
* Snowy Origami Set
* Icicle Slapband Ruler
* Yeti Fluffly Notepad
* Arctic Owl Fluffy Keyring
* Scratch Art Cards
* Water Skimming Bounce Ball
* Polar Pencils & Pencil Toppers
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
- Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
- In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is every Friday (except for the first and last Friday of each term). Each week you just need to hand in your bank book between 8.15 - 8.45am outside the Library.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2019 School Banking program information pack at banking on Friday morning or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
