Fantastic Fete
Congratulations to all parents and community supporters who helped with the organisation and running of our biannual fete. The atmosphere and well-designed layout meant the crowd of over 3000 were able to move freely throughout the various stalls, rides and activities easily throughout the day. Convenor Laura Watson led a great team of fete reps and volunteers who spent many long hours ensuring everything was planned and ready. We were extremely fortunate with the weather which held out until our final auction item was sold.
On behalf of the students and staff at New Farm, I wish to sincerely thank all of you who have supported our school community at this year’s fete. It was a wonderful success, great atmosphere, wonderful variety in rides, food, crafts, activities and entertainment. Thank you one and all.

Typing Club Start Up
I am pleased to invite students in Year 2-6 to our Typing Club which will run our new typing program each Tuesday 8:15 – 8:45am in the school lab A Block. Typing skills are becoming more important for students to master and this is a great way to have a little extra practice.
School Uniforms
Thank you to those parents who have now purchased school jumpers. Please ensure they are labelled clearly as they do tend to be discarded during the day when it warms.
Mascot
Some of you may have seen Kookie, who flew in as a V.I.B. on fete day. The kookie costume has been kindly donated to the school and will be used to promote our Positive Behaviour for Learning framework. Everyone will get to meet Kookie on the P.B.L. launch day early next term.
- Before School Play Zones
Just a reminder that before school play zones are the Netball court for Prep –Year 2 and the oval for Year 3 – Year 6. All other areas are ‘out of bounds’ until 8.45 a.m. We appreciate you not moving to class areas, before the 8.45 a.m. bell, as this is valuable preparation time for our teachers.
- After School procedures:
All families at the 3.20pm bell are required to leave the school premises or have their student booked into Jabiru OSHC.
For Jabiru enrolments please email: newfarm@jabiru.org.au

Classes which are involved in the move are:-

From Wednesday 26 June students can report to their new room from first bell at 8.45am on this day.
These moves will all happen over the course of the day. Classes will be asked to vacate their classroom whilst the removalist enter the classroom. We will have the majority of the new furniture delivered by Friday 21 June. There is a delay in fulfilling some of our student desk order. These will be here after the holiday. All classes will take their current furniture for this move and have the new desk installed after the holidays.
Oval Refurb
- Fencing in Heal Street will be completed next week. The contractors are awaiting some final panels.
- One panel is still to be installed at the new stairs on the oval.
- Honeywill project managers have visited and noted some defects and are following up on these items.
- We would like to thank Kane from Lauder and Sons for working with school staff over the course of the project.
Fete 2019
Thank you to the P&C committee and especially Laura for their tireless effort with the recent Fete. Thank you for valuing our school property and facilities. All areas have been left in good order and this is most appreciated by the school. It is not easy to have a very large crowd of people on site for such an event. Thank you to the cleaning team for their hard work on Monday morning to have everything ready for start of the school day.
Band Instrumental Music update:
The beginner Band BLITZ held on Tuesday the 4th of June at Windsor SS saw our New Farm year 4 band students take part in sectional lessons for their instrument as well as concert band rehearsals before performing in the end of workshop concert to a packed house of eager families and friends. Our students where part of the "Blue" 134 piece concert band formed from 6 neighbouring schools and conducted by Mr McIntyre with 263 students from 17 schools actually attending on the day. They performed a piece about an ancient hidden temple and another piece about the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale. They will be performing at assembly this week so listen out!
Congratulations to all the students involved, great representation of the school in attitude and musicality, on what was truly a memorable day.
Congratulations to the year 5 and 6 students, our concert band, who performed with distinction an the fete last Sunday. They played with excellent rhythm and pizazz despite the brand new performance environment and lack of recent rehearsals.
Enrolments for 2020 entry are now open. Expression of Interest and check list can be found at the link below.

Get involved in the School Banking program.
New Farm State School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2019 are:
* Scented Stackable Highlighters
* Snowy Origami Set
* Icicle Slapband Ruler
* Yeti Fluffly Notepad
* Arctic Owl Fluffy Keyring
* Scratch Art Cards
* Water Skimming Bounce Ball
* Polar Pencils & Pencil Toppers
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
- Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
- In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is every Friday (except for the first and last Friday of each term). Each week you just need to hand in your bank book between 8.15 - 8.45am outside the Library.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2019 School Banking program information pack at banking on Friday morning or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
For further information, please contact Belinda Hill on bjyates12@hotmail.com
Badminton is suitable for many children as a racquet sport for life long fun. We are glad to be able to use some modified sized racquets and portable pop-up nets as an avenue for hand-eye striking practice for the upper school – thanks to last year’s Coles collection!
STEAM display.
Thank you to all the teachers and students for all your efforts in developing the STEAM display for the fete. There were many positive comments from visitors as they viewed the school resources and the STEAM class tasks.
