IMPORTANT NOTICES
What if my child is unwell?
Any child who is showing signs of illness or feeling unwell, should stay at home.
If a child is showing signs of illness at school, the school will contact the parent or carer to collect the child.
Dr Carmel McGrath
Trivia Night
Trivia Night was another spectacular success with a great crowd, colourful costumes and plenty of fun had by all. I am so grateful to our P&C members, Natalie Chin, Michelle Logan and George Gallantree, who coordinated and organised the event and to all the many volunteers who also helped out on the night by serving dinner, working at the bar and baking for the night. An absolutely amazing community atmosphere and support for our school.
Staffing Update
This week we say a sad farewell to two of our wonderful teaching staff. From Year 1, Ms Johnston will be leaving us and is moving overseas. Her last day with Year 1J class is Wednesday 19th June and will be replaced my Ms Fiona Campbell who has been working with us as support teacher for maths. From Year 6, Ms Zayn Al Abidin will also be leaving us at the end of week 2 term 3, as she is moving overseas during Semester 2. Ms Zayn Al Abidin will begin Term 3 with her class while joined by the newly appointed teacher Ms Sue Cuthbertson. Ms Cuthbertson is an experienced teacher from the Sunshine Coast who is excited to be joining the New Farm community.
Mrs Bradley is on long service leave this week and for the first 2 weeks next term. During her absence Ms Melinda Norman will be Acting Deputy Principal and Ms Krohn will be A/HOD Curriculum. Regular relief teacher Ms Robyn Alderman will replace Ms Krohn on Year 4.
Sports Days
Thank you to Mr Rainbow, Mrs Bradley and all staff who helped organise and facilitate the track and field events for this year. It was the first time we have combined the track and field for upper primary students and feedback from all involved has been that the positive, with students having greater activity during the day. The weather was spectacular for the day at the Windsor Park and a huge thanks goes to the many parent helpers who volunteered on the day. Students and staff supported their Houses by proudly wearing their respective Colours and showing excellent participation and sportsmanship.
Semester 1 Report Cards
Student report cards will be emailed home in this week of term from Thursday 20 June. Thank you to Ms Norman and Mr Curby for coordinating this year’s process.
Prep ’25 Enrolments
Our 2025 prep enrolment process has begun. I encourage any families with prep aged children to submit their enrolments as soon as possible as we hope to conduct the majority of interviews in Term 3. This is an essential part of predicting student numbers, allocating staffing and forming classes for 2025. Other prep transition elemens will include:
- Term 3 – Pre-Prep Playgroup program for 6 weeks and a ‘Tour of the School’ for prospective families (date to be confirmed).
- Term 4 - Pre-Prep Playgroup program for 6 weeks and our regular Prep Open Day.
Inclusive Education - Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
The NCCD is a needs-based model of supporting students with disability in alignment with both the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Disability Standards for Education (2005). Education Queensland’s Inclusion Policy also aligns with these key policies and gives guidance to how we develop our inclusive practices at New Farm SS. Our Inclusion Coach Cath Eurell and Inclusion Mentor teacher Kahli McLeod recently attended a regional moderation forum to ensure consistency among schools. The main aspects included:
- knowing our students well,
- identifying the characteristics of individuals through consultation with students, parents or carers, specialists and teachers,
- identifying the impacts on access and participation in school,
- identifying the barriers which a person’s disability may have on their learning and participation, and
- developing adjustments to the curriculum, teaching strategies and assessments to support and enable every student to participate on the same basis as students who do not have a disability.

NEW SCHOOL ZONE SIGNS
The Queensland Government remained committed to ensuring the safety of students ravelling to and from schools and will install flashing school zone signs (FSZS) in 100 school zones across Queensland, during the 2024-25 financial year. It gives me great please to advise the New Farm State School will be receiving these signs in the Annie Street school zone and the Beeston Street/Kingsholme Street school zone. Installation of FSZS at New Farm State School will improve visibility of the school zone and serve as an active reminder for motorists to slow down when children are out and about. Several important factors are considered when assessing school zones for flashing lights, such as crash history, traffic volumes, pedestrian movements, the speed limit and visibility. This ensures FSZS are delivered to priority sites across Queensland. FSZS have been a success since the program was introduced in 2012. Since then, FSZS have been installed at more than 1390 Queensland school zones.
