IMPORTANT NOTICES
What if my child is unwell?
Any child who is showing signs of illness or feeling unwell, must stay at home.
If a child is showing signs of illness at school, the school will contact the parent or carer to collect the child.
This Friday is our last school day for the 2023 School Year. Once again, the end of a very busy and successful year at New Farm. For those families and staff leaving us, I wish you every success and thank you for the valued contributions you have made during your time with us. I would particularly like to acknowledge the dedicated staff team who have worked cooperatively and positively for the best outcomes for all students. I am also very grateful to our parents for their support through the year and particularly the incredible dedication of our P&C executive who go above and beyond in giving up their time for the many events throughout the year: President Rachel Frizzo, Vice President Fiona Caniglia, Treasurer Dahna Gallantree and Secretary Teneille Elliott.
I hope everyone enjoys a safe and happy holiday period and I look forward to seeing you all in January 2024.
Year 6 Graduation Dinner and Ceremony
Thank you so much to all our parents and staff who attended last week’s Graduation Dinner at Oxlade Drive last Thursday night. Special thanks to our wonderful organizing committee: Belinda Hill, Katrina Wallwork, Michelle Logan, Samantha Bryce, Elaine Serisier and Kylie Barr. The night was a great event with tributes by our School Captains Bodie Hill and Azalea Dunn-Mura. Mr Fleming did a terrific job as MC for the event and the students had a great time on the dance floor, in the photo booth and mingling with their friends and guests.
Congratulations to all students, we wish you all the best for secondary school. Well done to special award recipients:

Dance Extravaganza
Thank you to our Dance teachers and Mrs Norman for organising this week’s end of term P-2 dance performance. It is a wonderful showcase of their dance lessons for term 4 and a great fun event for our last week of school. Thank you again to our marvellous dance instructors.
Staffing Update: Thank you and farewell to our staff who are leaving New Farm this year: Ms Valentin (Leave 2024), Ms Navarro, Ms Heenan, Mrs Smart, Mrs Horn, Mr Laurence (extended leave 2024), Mrs Chen (leave and then retirement), Ms Morris (transfer), Ms Loudon (continued secondment interregional), Ms Vanderzant (moving) and Ms Burgess (continued secondment regional office). We wish you all the best for their future. Welcome to incoming teachers: returning teacher Mr Nash. Mrs Baker appointed as new Student Engagement teacher. New administrative staff include: Mr Williams as Business Manager with Mrs Deans supporting a transition to the role in term 1 before retirement.
LOTE 2024
With Mrs Chen retiring in 2024, I have moved Ms Lee to the Year 4-6 LOTE classes. LOTE is compulsory for years 5 & 6, therefore, we will be making some changes to our P-3 Languages program. From next year our junior classes will begin exploring Key Word Sign rather than Chinese. Key Word Sign adds signs to spoken words to support communication - Key words from sentences are signed along with the verbal words. Students have slowly started engaging with this in various classrooms where students regularly, at assemblies and in some lunch time clubs. However, in 2024, we are excited to begin moving our teaching and learning experiences into our junior school classrooms. More information will be provided in the new year.
Attached is a Key Word Sign poster for Christmas time!
2024 Class Allocations: Thank you to staff, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the complex task of organising students into their new classes has now been finalised. Students will receive a teacher postcard package to take home and most will meet their new teacher this week. If the class teacher is unable to attend due to commitments, an opportunity will be available in the January Pupil Free Days. The Open Morning for families to attend is scheduled from 9am Friday 19 January 2024.

Curriculum Fun!
Recently, our teachers have been familiarising themselves with the new version 9 English Australian Curriculum. By 2027 all learning areas will be using this version of the curriculum. Did you know our Science curriculum is using the new version already?
Thanks to our dedicated teachers who are always looking for innovative ways to engage our NFSS students inside and outside of the classroom.
QParents
We kindly ask that all NFSS families register with QParents.
QParents is a parent portal that we are progressing towards making our one-stop-shop platform for parents. Recent upgrades to the functionality of QParents, means that it will become a portal for permissions for school excursions.
QParents is available via either a website or a handy app, which enables fast access to pay multiple invoices at once and provide multiple permissions at once.
If your child/ren have a medical condition requiring regular or emergency administration of medication, please make sure you have the following ready for drop off in 2024:
- A CURRENT Action Plan for Asthma and Allergies – these are to be reviewed on a yearly basis, if your current action plan expires by the end of March 2024 please arrange a new one over the school holidays as the start of the year can be very busy.
- An accompanying letter from a Doctor for all medication that may need to be administered during school hours – detailing when, why and how much medication is required to be administered at school.
IF YOUR CHILD/REN SELF ADMINISTER THEIR MEDICATION THIS NEEDS TO BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED IN BOTH THE LETTER FROM THE DOCTOR AND IN THE ACTION PLAN
Parents are also required to provide a letter detailing their consent for their child/ren to administer their own medication.
- Medication must be in the original container and must have a pharmacy label with your child’s name and the prescribing Doctor/Dentist’s details.
- If required, Parents will need to fill out an “Administration of Medication” form. If your child requires more than one medication, a form for each medication will need to be filled out.
Please note that unless all of these are received, staff cannot administer medication during school hours.
Providing Medication to the School
Parents are welcome to drop medication to the Admin Office between Monday 15th January and Friday 19th January from 9am – 3pm daily.
If you cannot make these times, you are welcome to drop into the admin office between 9am & 12pm during Week 1 of term (starting 22nd January).
Students are not permitted to transport their own medication. An adult must attend and provide medication and complete any require consents.
For all emergency medication, once it has been received and recorded by administration, all medication (e.g. asthma medication, anaphylaxis medication) will be put into a labelled box and stored in the administration building First Aid Room.
If your child/ren’s medical status changes (e.g. asthma action plan no longer relevant, allergy severity decreased etc) please let the school know via email through firstaid@newfarmss.eq.edu.au so that we may update our systems.
The office wishes you all a safe and happy holiday and we look forward to seeing you all return in 2023.

The Look Out Monitors are volunteers / representatives of the School. Please be respectful and courteous.
Invitation For Our First Nations Families
New Farm Public School is committed to fostering inclusivity and representing the diversity of our students. We are currently reaching out to invite First Nations parents and family members to participate as First Nations representatives at our monthly P&C meetings.
The P&C meetings are a platform where parents and family members can actively contribute to the decision-making processes and support the school in creating a nurturing environment for our students. By having First Nations representatives on board, we can better ensure that the voices and perspectives of our First Nations students and their families are represented and heard.
Responsibilities of First Nations parent and family representatives may include:

- Voicing concerns, suggestions and recommendations from a First Nations perspective
- Collaborating with staff and parents to promote cultural awareness and inclusivity
- Providing suggestions about cultural activities, celebrations or educational initiatives that celebrate First Nations culture within our school community.
Welcoming the participation of First Nations families in our P&C meetings, as well as collaborating and engaging with First Nation community members and organisations signifies a crucial and foundational step in our journey towards reconciliation.
