2024 Student Leaders’ Selection Process
Last week we began our 2024 Captain selection process. I was so impressed with the quality of our candidates and the effort they made with their speeches. Following student voting, shortlisting and interviews, I am very pleased to congratulate and appoint the following students to the leadership roles:
School Captains: Abby Logan and Harrison Basile
Vice Captains: Mischa Tran and Oscar McAllister
This week we continue with our process, selecting our House Captains and in Week 3 our Project Captains. The current Year 3-5 students are involved in the voting process. Best of luck to all candidates.

Dance extravaganza date to be finalised. Please note that both permission and payment are required for participation in swimming and dance.
Quadrennial School Review
Following our school review, we will have a report outlining the external teams affirmations and recommendations for our next 4 year strategic plans. Across this term I will lead the final consultation opportunity for students, parents and staff through surveying and workshops. My aim is to ensure that by the end of this term we will have developed our 2024-27 Strategic Vision and Values. The key priorities and implementation strategies will be completed by the end of term 1 2024. This final Strategic plan will then be shared through our P&C and will inform our Annual Implementation Plan for each of the following 4 years. I encourage you to take the time to respond to the forms survey as it is sent out this term.
Gifts and Benefits information
A reminder that school staff are required to declare any gifts over $150. Any declarations should be given to the Principal.
Workplace Health and Safety
We completed our term 4 evacuation drill last week. Next week we will conduct our term lockdown drill and our WHS Committee meeting. Currently we are also reviewing our safety policy and procedures and will develop our 2024 Annual Safety Action Plan in the next few weeks.
Uniform Reminders
It is part of our uniform policy that all students have their own hat. We do have a few spares to lend to children who have forgotten or misplaced their hat, but this should not be relied upon as a permanent solution. If your child is continually borrowing the spare hat, you may be invoiced for the cost.
Classes 2024
A reminder that the Form for Parent input to classes 2024 has now closed. All class formations will be in draft form until day 8 of the new school year.

Beans, beans, glorious beans! The first day back for Term 4 began with a merry and plentiful harvest of the green beans in Little Patch. Some were washed and eaten on the spot, and some were taken by volunteers and transformed into tasty Italian salads. In other garden goodness, School Plus staff and students harvested and bagged the lettuce crop in Little Farm for families to take home and enjoy.
A big thank you to all the students, parents and community members who volunteered at the October 7th working bee. It was a great turn out and so productive. We had tastings for our upcoming range of herb salts, filled up the beds with crushed mushroom substrate, planted corn, beans and tomatoes, prepped the pots for our vertical edible flower garden, fed the citrus bed, made a ‘lasagne’ in the green waste bin, tidied up the shed and more. One of our young volunteers also took time to sit quietly and write poetry inspired by peas and purple potatoes.
The next working bee is Saturday November 4th from 3-5pm. All are welcome.

The Look Out Program is a Pedestrian and Traffic Interaction program that “looks out” for our kids – the implication is one of care and concern. The Look Out program assists the school to help manage the flow of traffic in our 2 minute pick up zone on Annie Street, in an orderly, safe way. The Look Out Monitors are volunteers / representatives of the School. Please be respectful and courteous.
Invitation For Our First Nations Families
New Farm Public School is committed to fostering inclusivity and representing the diversity of our students. We are currently reaching out to invite First Nations parents and family members to participate as First Nations representatives at our monthly P&C meetings.
The P&C meetings are a platform where parents and family members can actively contribute to the decision-making processes and support the school in creating a nurturing environment for our students. By having First Nations representatives on board, we can better ensure that the voices and perspectives of our First Nations students and their families are represented and heard.
Responsibilities of First Nations parent and family representatives may include:
- Attending P&C monthly meetings and actively participating in discussions
- Voicing concerns, suggestions and recommendations from a First Nations perspective
- Collaborating with staff and parents to promote cultural awareness and inclusivity
- Providing suggestions about cultural activities, celebrations or educational initiatives that celebrate First Nations culture within our school community.
Welcoming the participation of First Nations families in our P&C meetings, as well as collaborating and engaging with First Nation community members and organisations signifies a crucial and foundational step in our journey towards reconciliation.
If you know of any potential First Nations community connections, Elders or organisations open to establishing connections or engaging in collaboration with our school, or if you are interested in the role of a First Nations representative, have further questions or would like to know more please email Talia on txjoh11@eq.edu.au
