Bullying Prevention
This term, our Second Step work will focus on Bullying Prevention. Every student will be learning, in age appropriate ways, the following concepts: Recognise, Report and Refuse. It is very important all students can identify bullying correctly.
Bullying is aggressive behaviour that:
- Is usually repeated over time.
- Occurs in a relationship where there is a power imbalance.
- Intends to cause harm or distress and/or has a serious harmful or distressing effect on the target.
It is important for children, parents and staff to distinguish bullying from both rough -and – tumble play and conflict that happens between peers of equal status. These are normal parts of development, but bullying is not.
Rough-and-tumble play is identifiable because all the children involved participate voluntarily, whereas bullying is unwanted. Conflict and arguments common in childhood can be resolved using problem-solving strategies or through mediation. However, due to the power difference in a bullying situation, teachers will respond differently.

Sari Brown from 2K has been announced as the winner of the Name The Crane Colouring competition from last term.
Sari chose the name “Picky Upy” for the crane which is currently working on building the new Kangaroo Point Green Bridge, a footbridge across the river between Eagle Street Pier and Kangaroo Point. Sari and her family joined Councillor for Central Ward, Cr Howard, and project representatives for the official naming of the crane during the week. The name will now be displayed on site while the Connect Brisbane team led by BESIX Watpac continues to build the bridge. ‘Picky Upy’ is the world’s largest capacity tower crane, the M2480D Heavy Lift Luffing Crane supplied by Marr Contracting. It will lift the bridge’s heaviest elements into place including the 180 tonne mast head.
Thank you to all students who participated. The quality of entries indicated the high level of creativity and consideration that went into each name.
The original entries will be returned to school soon and put on display for all to enjoy.
Keep an eye out in the river near the city as you cross the Story Bridge to spot Picky Upy!
Congratulations Sari.
