P&C Awards for 2023 are now open!
Often seen as unsung heroes, these awards provide an opportunity for P&Cs and their school communities to showcase and receive recognition for the hard work and contributions they have within each year in Queensland state schools.
This year with categories specifically targeting the impact P&Cs have in our schools – as well as shining the light on a new individual award ‘The Spirit of P&C’ – we are hoping to see lots of entries that represent the fantastic impact P&Cs have on their school community.
So – what can you do to help?
Advertise the awards in your school newsletter and across your social media platforms, plus nominate your P&C for an award!
P&Cs are eligible to submit one entry in each of the following categories -
- Fundraising Impact
- Positive Community Partnerships
- Eco-Sustainability
- The Business of OSHC
- The Business of Tuckshop
As mentioned above, this year we are also introducing the new individual award ‘The Spirit of P&C’. This category has been introduced for the first time in 2023 to recognise an individual volunteer who embodies the spirit of what it means to be a P&C volunteer. Entry is by way of nomination and is open to all volunteers of P&Cs in Queensland state schools who are affiliated members of P&Cs Qld.
Here is the link to the P&C Awards page on our website, which includes entry forms for each category, category entry guides, the application process and the Terms and Conditions.
Professional Office Staff Day– On behalf of all staff and families, I wish to thank our office team (Jenny, Yvonne, Viv, Natalie and Nicola) for the professionalism and positivity they demonstrate in their roles each day. Working in a school office is very different to other office environments, and requires a dedication to our students, staff and community including a vast range of duties. Thank you to our wonderful team for the work they do for our school community. |
Parent Teacher Interviews – Thank you to the many parents who attended last week’s parent-teacher interviews. Both after school sessions went well offering a chance for parents and carers to meet staff and update on progress and goals. Thank you to the leadership team for managing the booking, timing and catering and to admin/facilities staff for setting up and cleaning up for the event. It takes a team effort to ensure these events go well. We still have another round of interview sessions to offer for the staff who were unavailable during last week’s event. This will include Ms Baker’s Year 5 class, Ms Valentin's Year 2 class and Mr Lawrence’s (for Ms Blackadder’s) Year 6 class. Any feedback on how we can improve the process is always gratefully received, please email kbrad27@eq.edu.au.
Mother’s Day Stall – thank you to Ms Zayn al- Abidin and Year 6 Community & Charity leaders for coordinating this week’s Mother’s Day stall. It is being held this week before school Monday -Thursday and then all-day Thursday with classes having an opportunity to visit the stall for their purchases. The proceeds of the stall will be donated to the McGrath Foundation for Breast Cancer.

Thank you to our outgoing 2022 P&C Executive member Tanya Shapiro for her involved and contribution. Lyn, Fiona and Dahna have generously continued on this year which is great for the continuity and succession planning for our school. Parent Teacher Interviews - Classes 5B, 6B & 2K
There will be an opportunity for parent teacher interviews for these classes on the Thursday 1st of June. We will operate the same booking system as for our May interviews and these meetings will be held in the hall. No bookings can be made yet. If your student is in one of these classes, watch out for a yellow slip which has a unique student I.D. number on it. Your student will bring this home next week; keep it safe.
Playgrounds
Before and after school, our playgrounds are hired by School Plus. It’s important that the educators can access these areas and can properly supervise the children in their care. Unless your child/children are signed into School Plus they are not permitted on this equipment before and after school.

Congratulations! Off to National School Sport Australia Cricket Championships.
Margot attended the State Cricket Championships 10-12 year old girls carnival in Bundaberg recently, and has been selected in the Queensland team for this age group! This level of accomplishment only comes along once in a while – so we are so excited to share the news of her next step. This selection comes with some commitment which includes a training camp in Ipswich May 30th - June 2nd and then the national carnival will be held in Darwin June 3-10th.
We are very proud to cheer on Margot, and hope it is a proud and enjoyable time for her and her family.

Wadjiny Whole School Incursion - Thursday 25 May 2023
New Farm State School is pleased to be welcoming Wadjiny, an incursion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. This curriculum aligned incursion will provide all New Farm State School students with a lasting insight into Aboriginal histories and cultures.
Troy Allen combines dance, storytelling, and music to explore the culture and day to day life in a hunter gatherer society. This immersive presentation allowed students to be involved in traditional dance.
The students will be engaged and educated through the presentation of a collection of artefacts including traditional weapons, tools, nets and other everyday items.
A constant throughout all his stories is a theme of great respect for land and all creatures that inhabit it.
