Year 6 Camp
Thank you to Ms Zayn AlAbidin, Mr Jones, Mrs Blackadder and Mr Lawrence for supervising students during Year 6 Moreton Island environmental camp this week. It is a great deal of planning and preparation for staff and families but such a worthwhile and memorable experience and for building positive relationships. Thank you so much to all our staff for the commitment shown, enabling this camp to happen. Once again, this also strengthens our bonds with the Moreton Bay Eco Marines network.
RWI Training and 3L Training
Last week our Year 4 teachers participated in professional development focused on literacy development based on functional grammar. The staff are looking forward to implementing these practices in Term 2 English lessons.
Thank you to Literacy / Numeracy Coach Ms Sandy Chambers, for conducting Read Write Inc. Synthetic Phonics training days for new staff to New Farm. It is amazing to see our new staff so enthusiastic in learning this program. The explicit teaching and positive approach of RWI ensures students are focused on learning their sounds, blending and segmenting sounds and being able decode words from very early in Prep. Every child is working at their individual level with support in learning to read.
Inclusion Pillar
Congratulations on our Inclusion Pillar’s acceptance into the regional group: Collaborative Community for Prep and Year 1 Students with Complex Needs. Inclusion Coach Mrs Cath Eurell and teachers Ms Kerrisk, Ms DeBoer, Ms McLeod and Deputy Principal Mrs Kay Bradley will represent our staff in the regional work and lead the capacity building across our school.
Year 6 Student Leaders’ Legacy Project
Thank you to Year 6 teachers and students who have now submitted their proposed Legacy Project for 2023. The project will be a mural painted onto Perspex and mounted on the dividing external block wall behind the netball court. Theme: early Indigenous Brisbane River featuring people, fauna and flora. Inspiration has been taken from the painting below which is hanging in Q-Shelter offices on Wickham Terrace. Thank you to P&C President Fiona Caniglia for working with student leaders to help inspire this year’s project.

Parent-Teacher Interviews May 2023
Dear Parents,
Parent-Teacher interviews will be held for years Prep to Year 6 on the 3rd and 4th of May. No booking can be made yet. Interviews will be of 10 minutes duration.
For these interviews, we are using the online booking system called Parent Teacher On-Line (PTO). It saves time for parents, staff and students!
Using this system, you will be able to book the interview times that suit you best from any internet enabled device. PTO also has its own free app for Apple and Android devices. Contact our school office, if you do not have access to a device.
The booking system will be open and live on 21st of April at 3 p.m. No bookings can be made before this time.
In the first week of Term 2 you will receive a paper slip with your student’s EQ ID. You will require this to log on when our booking system goes ‘live’. Please keep this slip safe.
From 21st of April, you will be able to access the system as follows:
- Go to the school’s home page: https://newfarmss.eq.edu.au/
- Click the PTO icon as shown here
- Click “Obtain PIN/Password” and enter your email address. Your PIN will be emailed to you.
Full instructions are provided to you after log in. Please note the following points:
- When you log on, enter your student I.D. number which will have been sent home on a yellow slip. If two parents/guardians wish to attend, one parent/guardian should make the booking then both can attend.
- You will only see time slots that are available at the time you are using the system. As time slots are booked for teachers, those time slots are no longer displayed as available. PTO prevents double-booking of teachers or parents/guardians.
- When you have made all the bookings you require, you can download or email a report of your bookings in time order for printing. You can log in and change bookings any time up to 12 p.m. on the day of the interview.
- Other parents may be making bookings at the same time that you are using the system. It is possible, though unlikely, that a time slot is displayed to you as available, but is then booked by another parent shortly afterwards. If you then attempt to book this time slot it will not be available and a message will be displayed to indicate this.
- If you encounter any problems using PTO please contact the school office by phone on 3358 7333 or by email to kbrad27@eq.edu.au
Any feedback you may wish to provide will be most welcome.
Dance Concert
I great time was had by all on Monday night at the Senior Dance Extravaganza. Thank you to all the students, families and staff who attended. As usual it was standing room only. Thank you also to Creative Dance Industries and our Tuckshop Volunteers who helped make the night a success. The junior school will have their Christmas Dance Concert at the end of Term 4.
Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting
Teachers have been busy moderating the student’s assessment for Term 1. This ensures consistency of judgement across the year level, and a deep understanding of the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards and Content Descriptions. Not all learning areas will be formally assessed and reported on each semester. This has been detailed in previous newsletters and in the Term 1 Overviews.
The Term 2 Overviews will be sent out via Schoolzine at the end of week 1 next term. These overviews detail the Learning Areas, focus on the units being covered, and whether there is an incursion, excursion or special event planned.
Prep - Year 2 - Fun Run - Thursday 30 March -9am-11am
Prep - 2 Fun Run and Sports Morning Games
Thursday, March 30th (9am - 11am)

Please note: spectators are welcome to watch the oval fun run from the oval footpaths, but we will need the oval grass clear to allow for a safe race set up. You are welcome to follow your child's year level to watch the other rotations.
Rotational activities include:
* Oval Fun run class heat and year level final
* Sack races
* Traditional ball games
