Welcome back
I am very pleased to welcome staff, students and families to Term 2. I know that the unusual term 1 was challenging for many and the Easter break hopefully allowed for some relaxing family time. We all hope this term is smooth sailing.
Term 1 Dance Extravaganza
In the last week of term 1, we held our Dance Extravaganza for Years 3-6. It was great for the students to showcase their dances which they did with enthusiasm. Thank you to our talented Dance Instructors and to all our parents who attended the event.
Cross Country
Today students in Years 3-6 participated in our annual Cross-Country event at New Farm park. Thanks to Mr Rainbow and staff for organising the event. With glorious weather, it was sure to be a fun day out for all.
Workplace Health and Safety
Each term we conduct lockdown and evacuation drills to ensure students and staff are familiar with emergency procedures. They are planned to be held in week 3 and 5 of this term. Any visitors or contractors on the site at the time of drills are required to follow the direction of staff as part of the drill. Signing in and out when visiting the school site during school hours 9am-3pm is an important safety requirement.
P&C AGM
Next week Tuesday 26 April 5pm we are holding our P&C AGM. I encourage all interested parents and staff to join us for this meeting so we can reconnect and support our parent body. This meeting includes the election of the P&C Executive for our 2022 school year. I look forward to seeing everyone on the night.

Second Step - Term Two Focus
This term, our schoolwide theme is empathy. We’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
Second Step lessons specifically teach about empathy. You’ll be receiving Home Links describing why empathy is important and including fun activities to do with your child to help him or her identify feelings and practice showing empathy and compassion. We hope you find them helpful.
Please tell your child’s teacher if you have any questions about how you can help your child learn to identify feelings and show empathy and compassion at home.
Senior Dance Extravaganza
The Senior Dance Extravaganza was the highlight of Term 1 for me. There was standing room only at both the Yr 3-4 and Yr 5-6 sessions. Thanks to our community, the P&C raised over $600 on the night. Thank you to all the parents, students and staff who joined in the fun. Creative Dance Industries does a fabulous job supporting the teaching and learning of the Dance curriculum.
Term Overviews
Term 2 Overviews will be sent out for each year level via Schoolzine. This is a great way for parents and students to know what key topics they will be covering in each learning area.
NAPLAN 2022
Preparations are under way for NAPLAN online. These national tests will be administered during weeks 4 and 5, commencing 10th May. Mr Curby and I will be coordinating the organisation of these tests.
