Year 6 Leadership
Badge Ceremony
On Tuesday 08 March we held our annual student leadership induction ceremony. The audience included Year 6 parents only. For our Year 6 students this is a very important occasion where they pledge their commitment to uphold the school expectations of being respectful, responsible, safe and learners as they take on the role of leaders within our school. All students have participated in a range of leadership and team building activities throughout this term. Our captain roles include:
School Captains: Emma H and Matthew B
Congratulations to Matthew B who becomes New Farm State School’s inaugural First Nation’s School Captain.
Vice Captains Vivienne H and Ethan D
Merthyr House Captains - Milla S, Max G
Binkinba House Captains Alana K, Luca A
Teneriffe House Captains Amity-Rose D, Oliver K
Eco Marines Project Captains Alexis W, Denzel B
Community and Charity Project Captains Elonna C, Brayden I
Be Active Project Captains Max K, Giselle V
Year Level Leaders
Our 2022 Teacher Year Level Leaders (Mrs Navarro, Mrs Heenan, Mr Borg, Ms Kennedy, Mr Ramos, Mrs Blackadder and Mr Lawrence) attend regular professional development sessions with HOD Judy Loudon focusing on alignment of curriculum delivery across classes and year levels. The Year Level leaders will also be working with Education Consultant David Curran on a ‘strengths based team work’ and developing leadership skills.
COVID restrictions
With the relaxation of COVID restrictions in Queensland, state schools have returned to COVID normal operations and the restrictions that were part of the Back to school plan have been lifted. Parents, carers, volunteers, contractors and other visitors are welcome on school sites. Camps, excursions, assemblies and large gatherings have now recommenced. Schools will continue to supply rapid antigen tests to staff and students who become symptomatic while at school for the remainder of term 1.
Kay Bradley
- Grandfriends 2022
In 2021, in conjunction with AVEO Newstead Aged care Community we started a Grandfriend project, to foster inter-generational links between our school and the community. Research has found that these links have many positive effects on both generations.
We would now like to extend this project out to other ‘Grandparents’ in the community. These volunteers, all with Blue Cards, will be involved in a range of classroom projects from reading to excursion helpers and curriculum learning e.g. local history and letter writing. Grandfriends do not have to be an official Grandparent of a student, don’t have to make a firm, regular time commitment, just be available to work with one class, at a time that suits them and have a Blue Card.
If you, or someone you know, might be interested in being a Grandfriend please email kbrad27@eq.edu.au or call Kay Bradley 3358 7333
Year 6 Leadership Induction Ceremony
Well done to the Year 6 Cohort of 2022 where all students received a School Leader badge. Congratulations also to our School and Vice Captains, House Captains for Merthyr, Tenerife and Binkinba and Project Captains for Eco Marines, Community and Charity and Get Active. Thank you parents for coming to support your young person. Well done also to our two very competent Year 5 hosts, Jamie and Margo. Students concluded the ceremony by reciting their Leadership Pledge.
