IMPORTANT NOTICES
What if my child is unwell?
Any child who is showing signs of illness or feeling unwell, must stay at home.
If a child is showing signs of illness at school, the school will contact the parent or carer to collect the child.

Obstathon
Congratulations to P&C and staff involved in organisation and fundraising for this year’s Obstathon. The parent helpers at the school gate and under the buildings collecting donations and helping students with forms was very much appreciated. It was a colourful fun-filled event for the students and wonderful to be able to hold it without restriction this year. Thank you to all our students and families for their kind donations and for making this a huge success.
School Concert Band
Thank you to Mr McIntrye and the band students for their performance at this week’s assembly. The students have had more limited performance opportunities since COVID and this week’s performance was a very welcomed event. The students performed very well and the audience clearly enjoyed it. Students at New Farm have an opportunity to try out for the Instrumental Music at the end of Year 3 to begin in Year 4. Once students reach Year 5 they are then able to join the school concert band. Thank to Mr McIntyre for the marvellous work he does with our students.
Excursions and Incursions
This week has been a busy one with Obstathon and Friday is the Year 3 – 6 Athletics track events at Windsor Park. This is a very good venue and something a little different to our regular sports traditionally held at New Farm Park. Parents are welcome to join us at the park and should follow the COVID sign in expectation, wear masks and adhere to social distancing while at the venue.
This week also we have a number of excursions and incursions including:
- Wednesday – Mr Fenton running Mini Coders (city cluster students), Year 1 Star Lab incursion, Year 4 First Contact excursion
- Thursday – Mini Coders continued, and the Year 5 / 6 LOTE cultural excursion
Staff Update
Thank you to Mrs Bradley and Mrs Norman as well as my leadership team for the work they did during my leave in week 1. Welcome back to Mrs Boyes who is steadily returning to full time work while the class continues to be supported by both Mrs Boyes and Mr Borg.
Upcoming Events

Classes 2022
In a few weeks’ time we will begin to gather information relating to the formation of 2022 classes. You will be sent a Schoolzine message with an online form. This form will provide you with an opportunity to share important information relating to your child’s learning, personality clashes and important family information. Parent input is welcomed, not essential and requests are not guaranteed. N.B. Do not send any information or requests at this point.
Every year, we receive many requests, from parents, for students to be separated from other students in their grade. In some year levels, these multiple requests, from many parents, can make the formation of classes especially problematic.
Whilst for some students having a break from a student is beneficial, this accounts for a minority of our students. Whenever we consider separating students, we will refer to our records of behaviour incidents and contacts such as meetings or telephone calls. We will only action requests when there is a background that the class teacher or admin are aware of.
Managing relationships and developing strategies to navigate social interactions are important life lessons and research has shown are very important in personal development. We want our students to develop resilience and with the maturity that another year brings most of our students are able to move past previous minor negative interactions.
If you do have a worry about a particular student and are thinking of requesting they are separated from your child, please talk to your class teacher in the first instance and then include the request in the form which will be sent out in a few weeks’ time.

Project: New Farm State School Expansion Project
Subject: Temporary Water Outage – Saturday 24/07/21
Dear Resident,
We wish to inform you that as part of the new development at New Farm State School there will be upcoming temporary water outages that need to occur over the coming months. These outages are required to allow for disconnections to old property services as well as new connections added to the water network.
The next temporary water outage has been approved by Queensland Urban Utilities and will take place on Saturday 24/07/21; commencing around 9am with work scheduled for completion around 3pm that afternoon. There will also be road closures in place for part of Annie Street on that Saturday 24/07/21 to facilitate these infrastructure works.
Thanks in advance for your patience while these works are underway.
Should you require any further information regarding the works in question, please feel free to contact me via the email address below.
Yours sincerely
