Dillabah Garden Exhibition & Art Market
Art Work Registrations
Yesterday Ms Davis and I visited Uncle Gerard Bargo at The Lady Bowen Precinct to discuss the upcoming Dillibah Garden Exhibition & Art Market on 6-7 August. We were looking forward to being involved in this community event – “Dillabah Gardens uses art and creativity to build community connection and cultural awareness with Inclusiveness at its heart”. Ms Davis will be working with our Year 3, 4 & 5 students early next term to encourage their involvement. Our involvement will include:
A market stall showcasing student work (any students from any year levels wishing to be involved) or
An Exhibition entry where artists may submit up to 3 artworks (closing 23 July) and must be submitted independently of the school – see attached flyer.
Term 3 Curriculum Planning Meetings
Head Of Department (Curriculum) Mel Norman is working with teachers this week as they plan their T3 curriculum units. While all subjects are planned, the professional focus for collaborative work in 2021 is English and Health. During this time class teachers are off class and one of our regular relief teachers will continue the students with their class work. These planning sessions are an important part of ensuring consistency in marking guides and key planning elements across year level classes.
Report Cards
Currently teachers are finalising student report cards which will be emailed home in the last week of term 21-25 June.
NAIDOC week
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This committee was once responsible for organising national activities during NAIDOC Week and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. Find out more about the origins and history of NAIDOC Week .
Upcoming events:
- Last Day Term 2 – Friday 25 June
- First Day Term 3 – Monday 12 July
- P&C Meeting - Thursday 15 July Click here for more information

Behaviour in Boys’ Toilets
We would appreciate your support in addressing the ongoing ‘games’ in the boys’ toilets. In the last few months boys are deliberately flooding the floors by blocking up the sinks and leaving taps running, sticking wet paper towels onto the walls and ceilings and deliberately blocking toilets with paper towels and other non-organic objects.
This behaviour causes a huge amount of extra work for our Groundsman, Mr Ware and cleaners daily. There is also a financial cost to this behaviour and it leaves our toilets out of use for other students.
Please discuss this matter with your son/sons and encourage him/them to let me know if they have seen any other students engaging in this type of behaviour.
Life Education
During the year 3 life education session, students experienced TAMe technology (Electronic, Transparent, Anatomical Model). This software tool included 3D and augmented reality fly-throughs of the human body. It is designed to teach children about the workings of the human body and to create an exciting and deeper learning experience for children. TAMe provides a memorable experience to encourage learning and understanding. Our students really enjoyed this activity.

Facilities and Building Update
School holidays are almost upon us
During this period empty schools provide an opportunity for criminal activity, becoming targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage – all of which become a cost to the community.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene.
Call the School Watch number – 13 17 88
Let’s work together to help create safer school communities.
If you have information for police, contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.
You can report information about crime anonymously to Crime Stoppers, a registered charity and community volunteer organisation, by calling 1800 333 000 or via crimestoppersqld.com.au 24hrs per day.
