Dance Extravaganza
It was great for the students in Year 3-6 to finally get their day to showcase their term 1 dances. Thank you to our talented Dance Instructors and to all our parents who attended and shared the experience with our students. The performances were full of energy and fun.
ANZAC Day
Thank you again to all parents and community members who attended our school ceremony on Friday 23rd April. I was so proud of our students for the respect they demonstrated throughout the morning and when laying their class wreaths. Once again we were grateful to the special guests Minister of Education Hon Grace Grace, Federal member Hon Trevor Evans, RSL representative Paul Johnstone and Dan Quigley on trumpet, as well as our parents and community guests including Returned Services personnel and our Grandfriends. The Year 6 student leaders represented the school by hosting the event, speaking about the significance of ANZAC Day, and singing in the choir, laying wreaths and raising the flag.
Literacy Focus
This week I am visiting Prep and Year 1 RWI lessons. The prep teachers are now teaching students according to their term 1 assessment results and students are quickly adapting the new teachers as their move to their ability group. The consistency across classes has been outstanding and this has made the transition to new groupings ever so much easier.
The Year 1s are also now in new groups as they progress through their RWI levels. I am so impressed with the level of engagement during their learning sessions; students are focused and enjoy the consistency of process and management strategies across groupings and among staff. At home parents will hear terms such as Fred Talk, Special Friends, 1,2,3, Myturn – Your turn. These common terms are used in lessons as they proceed, as well as a high level of non-verbal cues for directing students or giving positive feedback such as thumbs up.
Upcoming Events
- Friday 30 April – PJ day fundraiser
- Friday 07 May – Prep – Year 2 FUN RUN on school oval
- Week 6 and 8 – Term Evacuation and Lockdown drills
- NAPLAN Online (Year 3 and 5)

Parent Teacher Interviews
We have had 328 parents make a total of 528 bookings, for this week’s parent teacher interviews. A couple of reminders to ensure the smooth running of these interviews:
- Log onto Parent Teacher online site and use the PIN that was emailed to you a few weeks ago, to check your appointment time.
- When you arrive at school, check in with the Check in Qld App.
- At your interview time, you can make your way directly to the teacher’s desk, there is no need to sign in. Teacher’s tables are organised in alphabetical order.
- The adventure playground will be closed to reduce the noise. If you are bringing your children with you please supervise them and ensure they do not go on the playground.
- There will be a one minute warning given, near the end of the your interview, at which point teachers will ‘wrap up’ conversations; we would appreciate your cooperation with keeping things on time.

Parent Forum
On the first Tuesday of Term 2 we had a small group of parents of diverse learners attend a parent forum to provide further feedback for consideration. Thank you to our parent representative Christel Middledorp who initiated the idea of the forum, as well as members of the Leadership Team who attended. Our Inclusion Pillar Committee will be looking at this feedback further to continue to develop action plans to optimise the social and academic inclusion for diverse learners at our school
QASEL Conference
We have been offered to present a workshop at the upcoming Qld Association of Special Education Leaders (QASEL) Conference in June at the Brisbane Hilton. The team will be presenting about our best practice in implementing multi-tiered systems of support across the school, and how we used collective efficacy and inclusive mindsets with the Australian Curriculum to achieve personalised learning outcomes for our students. It’s a real honour to be able to share our journey at a state-wide event.
Facilities and Building Update
When a person is diagnosed with COVID-19, Queensland Health will conduct contact tracing. Public health officers will assess the movements of the person with COVID-19 while they were infectious and determine who in the community are considered ‘close contacts’. Information collected at the businesses about customers and staff will assist in identifying and contacting the relevant close contacts. This will assist public health officers to contain and respond to the spread of COVID-19 within the community.
Use of the app will assist in the timely delivery of contact details to Queensland Health contact tracers (if required).
Once you have created a profile in the Check In Qld app, the app will remember your details, saving you time in the future and providing easy check-in across other Check In Qld participating venues.
The Check In Qld app is free, easy to use and convenient.
